Sometimes when you stumble upon a song or things or people, you can't help but to feel nostalgic and start falling into a full retrospect.
I was just browsing through the photos in my hard disc and found this old photo of mine.
This reminds me of that one designer, @carvenong_couture (who's gown I was wearing in the photo) who helped to dress me for events and made me feel like I was worth it when no other designers would.
When I was crowned Miss World Malaysia back in 2012, I didn't have much support nor guidance from the organizer.
I was left to my own devices, going solo and fighting a battle that people didn't know because it all seemed too much of a happy fairy tale on the outside.
Not many people knew the struggle I had to endure, having barely any exposure after my winning and the pressure to be known in this somewhat superficial world that we live in was real!
It didn't help when some netizens said really nasty things like, "I want to stone Yvonne to death." simply because her favourite girl didn't win the competition.
I was young and innocent. I can't deny the fact that these words didn't hurt but they didn't break me either.
It became a trigger point for me to work extra hard and prove that I was more than the value that people put on me.
I've just been really blessed to have friends who are really kind and supportive of me since day 1, even when I was nobody.
They made me realise I was more than what I thought I was.
They brought me out of my little shell and helped me climb the ladder of life.
For that, I am forever thankful to these people and will always remain grounded no matter how much I have achieved in life.
One of the few wishes I have in life is to be able to witness the happiness that only God and life could bring them.
I have so much love and gratitude towards friends and family that always have my back!
