美國總統公開中國國家主席習近平私人信件的英文譯本，施政透明化，比起林鄭堅持要與來訪的美國參議員告魯斯秘密會談而遭拒絕，香港女特首顯然不明白國際文化潮流。
此信函英譯，在英文用法與文法方面，有中西文化分歧之處。大家都討厭政治，不妨就這封難得的公開信，討論一下英語問題。
首先，1，Mr President, good afternoon. 是一個奇怪的開頭。若是尺牘形式，應該是Dear Mr
President起首。至於Good afternoon（下午好），雖然是中國人之間的口語問候，在英文書信中有一見發財之文化驚喜。因為雖然川普召見劉鶴，雖然為美國東岸下午二時，但不可以假設川普收信時馬上拆開閱讀。川普可能將信留在見劉鶴之後回家在臥室中與老婆共閱，稱Good afternoon ，並無時間十足正確把握。
況且天朝向洋夷發函，應以中南海勤政殿時間為中心，即使假設川普見劉副總時即刻拆開，北京時間為凌晨二時，開頭若稱Good night ，更現大國氣勢。
2， the photos you sent of us attending the G20 Osaka meeting together in June - 既然已提G20 和’us attending ‘ ，together 一字即屬多餘。更地道，可以說：Thank you for sharing the photos of the previous G20 Osaka Summit where we met. It was an interesting gathering.
3，Of our two sides, 「雙方」，略嫌Chinglish，是中國外交部多年慣用之直譯。應作 of our two countries 或of our two states。
4， in the other areas, 應作in other areas。此處不應有冠詞the。
5, serves the interest, interest 應作眾數。Act in the principle, principle 應作眾數，因為單中國一方，立國與外交「原則」，已經遠遠不止一項：台灣是中國一部份、不得干預香港內政、西藏是中國的一部份、新疆維吾爾自治區教育區不容美國指指點點、平等互惠、反對保護主義、尊重文化國情等等。
信函只得一頁，離奇未見下款。或有另一頁涉及個人機密，美方扣下未公布。但若是兩人之間真正好友私人信件，在英語世界，譬如邱吉爾寫信給羅斯福，結句時或會有一點人性表現的幽默，例如：
Finally, I miss the delicious chocolate cake at your villa when you mentioned you had just bombed Afghanistan after I had the first bite.
By the way, Carrie Lam, my girl in Hong Kong, has just complained to me about the not-so-gentlemanly treatment she has received from your friend Ted Cruz who is on a visit there. I have just instructed her to relax.

若有一日，中國的元首致美國總統的信有如此段落，則中國進入現代文明早已成功，香港對於主權移交中國將會無所抗拒，而且世界和平。
