Naaman was a leper, meaning that his skin was filled with lesions.
Even though he was a respected captain of the army of the king of Syria, I believe his ravaged skin must have made him feel ashamed, inferior and self-conscious.
Perhaps through God’s Grace you’ve accumulated a lot of blessings in this life. Everything is going well except for your skin that makes you feel self-conscious and unhappy.
Read on.
“So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha. Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.” But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’ Aren’t Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them, and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage. His servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn’t you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean?’” Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” (2 Kings 5:9-14 WEB)
Elisha’s message to Naaman was simple: wash in the river Jordan seven times and his flesh would be cleansed and restored.
However Naaman’s initial reaction was to show contempt for the simple command. The way he imagined he would get healed was totally different.
He thought it would be a dramatic display of power by the prophet.
Naaman reasoned that the rivers of Damascus were far better than the waters of Israel.
God’s word is likened to water (Ephesians 5:26). Perhaps you too unconsciously underestimate the power that’s available in the simple act of hearing.
Just keep hearing God’s word and you’ll be transformed.
“Yeah right, as if it’s so easy. What can hearing accomplish for me? I rather spend the time doing something actually productive about it.”
“My friend said this skin product is good. It’s very expensive so it must be good. Oh yeah that skin expert also said that this skincare routine will improve my skin. I better do that too...”
Do you disdain the water of God’s word and find that the skincare solutions of the world are better?
Do you think it’s more effective to do something by your own limited understanding and ability than to exercise faith in God’s promises?
Some believers would rather God tell them to climb the tallest mountain and use the water up there to wash their face and that would restore their damaged skin.
The sinful flesh just wants to do something that it can boast about and deserve its achievements.
Others expect God to shine a bright light down from Heaven and wash over them seven times dramatically to cause a full skin restoration.
After all, if it’s too simple and unspectacular, it can’t be true right? That’s what the flesh says.
When Naaman finally did as Elisha commanded and washed in the river Jordan seven times, seven being the number of perfection, his skin was restored like the flesh of a little child—he was given a fresh start, a new beginning!
The power to heal Naaman was not in the river Jordan.
No, the power to heal was in the anointed command that the Lord gave to Elisha—in other words, acting upon God’s word cleansed and restored Naaman’s flesh.
Dear brethren, God’s word is the water that can work this perfect cleansing in you and it has the power to transform your skin as well and restore its beauty.
When you receive and believe God’s word, the rivers of living water (Holy Spirit) inside you will be activated with power, transforming you into Jesus’ own image.
The glorified Jesus in Heaven has no blemish or spot—He is altogether lovely. A sinless being with no pockmarks, acne, or skin defects.
There is hope for your skin. No matter how damaged it is, the perfect water of God’s word and the Living Water indwelling you can turn everything around.
With God nothing is impossible, especially if there’s a precedent in His word.
Just like Naaman’s skin was restored like a little child’s, I’m believing that yours will also become smooth, clear, fresh, soft and beautiful!
Pray with me:
Dear Abba Father, thank you for giving us the Scriptures which contain power to transform us into Jesus’ own image, even to restore our youth and skin until it’s fresher than a little child’s. There’s hope for us in Christ. Help us to continue faithfully receiving your Word and being transformed by the Holy Spirit from glory to glory. In Jesus’ most precious name we pray, Amen!

Escape from the Hostile Mob in Nazareth
“He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began to tell them, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” All testified about him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth, and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” He said to them, “Doubtless you will tell me this parable, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’” He said, “Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land. Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian.” They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue, as they heard these things. They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff. But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.” (Luke 4:16-30 WEB)
Jesus anticipated the Nazarenes’ demands for miracles but He also told them the reason most of them couldn’t receive any: they were stumbled by their memories of Him growing up and that unbelief caused them to be unable to receive from God.
Jesus then gave the examples of prophet Elijah only being sent to provide for a Gentile widow and Elisha only being sent to heal a Gentile man.
Even though the two prophets were from Israel and anointed for Israel’s sake, the nation of Israel couldn’t receive because of their unbelief.
At that time, Jews despised the Gentiles and viewed them as being unclean like dogs and pigs.
Being told that Israel was more faithless than the Gentiles was the final straw that caused the Nazarenes to lose all composure.
Being convicted of their sin of unbelief, they reacted in anger instead of repentance. The enraged mob decided to kill Jesus for supposed blasphemy.
I’ve been to that narrow brow of that hill in Nazareth. When you look down the cliff, you’ll see sharp jagged rocks below.
A fall from that height and with that landing area would lead to a bloody, fatal mess.
Just when the mob thought they had Him cornered with no way of escape, Jesus just majestically passed through the middle of them.
Jesus didn’t scream or tremble in fear. He just faced them head-on and triumphed.
“Therefore the Father loves me, because I lay down my life, that I may take it again. No one takes it away from me, but I lay it down by myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. I received this commandment from my Father.”” (John 10:17-18 WEB)
No one could kill Jesus without His permission. At the cross, He willingly laid down His life for us.
Being without sin, Death had no right to fasten on Him.
The only way He could die is if He willingly gave up His spirit.
If you are a born-again believer who is in Christ, then you enjoy this same protection upon your life.
As a child of God who has been made righteous through Jesus’ blood, God can also deliver you safely out of fatal situations where escape seems impossible.
Do you feel cornered by enemies in your relationships, finances, health, work, ministry, family, etc.?
Jesus will make a way out for you just like how He (as Yahweh) divided the Red Sea for the children of Israel to pass through on dry land—you will live to declare His goodness!

Who is Messiah?
Messiah or Mashiach is a Hebrew term meaning "the anointed one" or "the chosen one". It comes from the Hebrew word "mashach" which means to anoint with oil. The Greek equivalent of Messiah is "Christos", translated in English as Christ.
In the Old Testament, whenever God chooses a new priest, prophet or king, He will instruct that chosen person to be anointed with oil as a sign of being specially set apart in service to Him.
For example, Moses anointed Aaron as a priest, Elijah anointed Elisha as a prophet in his place and Samuel anointed David as king over Israel.
Even furnishings in the tabernacle of Moses were anointed with oil to be set apart as holy objects for worshipping God.
So anything anointed with oil to be set apart to God is considered "maschiach".
However all these actually point to the true Messiah who would be anointed and chosen by God to complete the most important mission of all—to save mankind from their sins.
The ‘anointing oil is a picture of the Holy Spirit who comes upon the Messiah to provide divine empowerment.
In the Old Testament, there are many prophecies that point to this Messiah who would save Israel from their sins.
Jewish Rabbis mistakenly believe that there are two different Messiahs: one is "Messiah the Son of Joseph" (Mashiach Ben Yosef) and the other "Messiah the Son of David" (Mashiach Ben David).
This is because both are portrayed so differently that they think it's talking about two different people.
Mashiach Ben Yosef is depicted as a suffering servant who suffers and dies on behalf of Israel, whereas Mashiach Ben David is described as a glorious, triumphant King who defeats Israel's enemies and saves her, establishing a worldwide kingdom of peace.
Many Jews wrongly think that Mashiach Ben Yosef will act as a forerunner to announce the coming of Mashiach Ben David.
“The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah comes, he who is called Christ. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one who speaks to you.”” (John 4:25-26 WEB)
Jesus plainly declared Himself to be the Messiah and fulfillment of the prophecies about both Mashiach Ben Yosef and Mashiach Ben David.
These prophecies are not talking about two different men, but refer to the different purposes of Jesus' first and second coming.
During His first coming, Jesus came as the Lamb of God to die as a perfect atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world. At that time, He didn’t come to destroy men but to save men’s lives.
In His impending second coming, Jesus will return majestically as the Lion of the tribe of Judah to defeat the Antichrist and save Israel from him and his wicked armies.
Jesus will then establish His kingdom from Jerusalem and usher in a thousand year period of world peace known as "The Millennial Reign of Christ".
Finally, He will sit on His throne as the Judge over the living and the dead, rendering to each one according to their works.
“Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me; or else believe me for the very works’ sake.” (John 14:11 WEB)
While He was on earth, Jesus authenticated His claims of being the Messiah by working numerous miraculous signs and wonders, causing many to believe in Him.
Out of the many miracles, thirty-seven specific ones were selected by God to be recorded in the four gospels in the New Testament.
This is definitely not by chance—God wants us to study these miracles and see different aspects about Him revealed in them.
In my upcoming book "Messiah's Miracles—The Power of Having Faith in Jesus Christ", I expound all thirty-seven miracles and unveil God's heart of goodness, grace, mercy and love towards us as demonstrated through these miracles.
It is not God’s will for a Christian to live a natural, powerless life.
We are supposed to be seeing and enjoying the miraculous power of God at work in our lives and in the lives of those we minister to.
We can't afford to only have the word of God without the power of God—effective evangelism hinges on the potent combination of both.
“For God’s Kingdom is not in word, but in power.” (1 Corinthians 4:20 WEB)
Often we don't experience the power of God because we don't expect it to.
Some of us pray just soothe our emotional turmoil, and others go for church just to hear a good message to feed the mind, and walk off to lunch untransformed, never really encountering Jesus.
What better way to feed our faith for the miraculous than to meditate on the miracles that Jesus did? This faith-feeding process is what I feel led to facilitate through my upcoming book.
