On Sunday, Syed Azmi and I attended a “Bual Bicara” by Tuan Mukmin and Cik Huda to listen to their pitch and awareness talk about @sekolahalternatif.my and @borneokomrad.

I am deeply proud of their humble setup - 4 alternative schools that offer the basic M’s (membaca, mengeja, mengira).

We asked lots of questions and they answered them professionally and with such honesty. I knew immediately I wanted to help them.

Will write more soon. Tetiba my vision blur cause I’m typing this after my eyes were dilated for my eye check up today.

Hari ke- 36 Kempen RM 100 untuk Sekolah Alternatif Tawau

Dalam masa 36 hari kita telah mengumpul dana sebanyak RM 16 600 dari 166 orang penyumbang. Syukur Alhamdulillah. Kita memerlukan 94 orang lagi penyumbang.

Alhamdulillah, terima kasih kita ucapkan kepada semua lapisan masyarakat yang sudi menyumbang, menyebarkan dan terlibat dalam kempen projek pendidikan Sekolah Alternatif ini.

Kempen RM 100 adalah satu lagi inisiatif untuk mendanai kos enam bulan Sekolah Alternatif Tawau sebanyak RM 26,000. Oleh itu, kita sedang mencari 260 orang yang sudi menyumbang RM 100 sahaja (seorang). Terima kasih yang setia mendokong, semoga Tuhan permudahkan segala urusan dan melimpahkan rezeki kepada insan yang bermurah hati. Kami menjemput semua pihak datang ke Sabah melihat sendiri projek pendidikan Sekolah Alternatif yang kita bangunkan.

Apa Itu Sekolah Alternatif?

Sekolah Alternatif merupakan sebuah projek pendidikan yang dibangunkan hasil idea mahasiswa Universiti Malaysia Sabah(UMS) sekitar tahun 2015-2016 lagi.

Antara sekolah alternatif ketika itu adalah Sekolah Rumah Pangi(Tuaran), Sekolah Jalanan Pasar Filipin(KK), Sekolah Jalanan Tawau(Kelas IKAT), Sekolah Sosial Advocacy(Kampung Teluk Layang) dan Sebagainya. Kelompok mahasiswa ini datang dari bermacam-macam bidang iaitu Seni, Antropologi Sosial, Hubungan Antarabangsa dan mahasiswa Tawau.

Projek pendidikan ini dilangsungkan setelah pengamatan serius bahawa Negeri Sabah mempunyai masalah besar kelompok masyarakat tanpa dokumen atau

Today I attended the second "Misi Jelajah Kempen Anak Tanpa Negara bual bicara" held at Gerakbudaya PJ.

I will post their poster that promotes the other venues they will be holding their talks at on another posting, as I can't seem to add it on here.

I am extremely proud of the noble work by done Tuan Mukmin and Saudari Huda and the team in ensuring that no child is left behind in receiving the education they should have access to. They offer the basics of 3Ms: Membaca, Mengeja & Mengira in 3 phases with 1 phase consisting of 6 months.

After persuading the childrens' parents to let them go for classes (Only 2/4 of their humble sekolah alternatif offer a 5day a week classes though, as they lack manpower and resources) the selected children will then attend and be taught how to read, spell and count.

Besides that, they are also taught fardu ain and the kids will also be exposed to life skills that they might be interested in doing full time so they sustain their own living .

In @bornoekomrad's analysis they found that the children were bad in reading and spelling but extremely good with maths.

Why? Simply because they are exposed ro child labour at a young age and quite often, they gamble. So they're “good with mathematics and counting”.
