Today I want to share what I normally eat before my run, because Nutrition plays a huge role in my performance!⚡
So here presenting to you 👉 My favourite Egg Sandwich!🥪
What's in:
2-3 Toasts
- 3 for a 80+ kg guy like me
- Carbs are not necessary evil! Carbohydrate is our body most preferred source of fuel especially for running. Getting in some fast/medium GI before your run will fuels you up to crush every miles better!
3-5 Eggs
- I'll go for 5 but more whites and lesser yellows
- Protein is crucial for muscular endurance and maintaining muscle mass. Egg is super easy to digest and it has one of the best biological value, not forgetting the healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats from the yellows too!
A Few Lettuce
- Ok....Honestly, this is just to make the food look nicer in photo, lol. We all know how important fibre is, but not for now (before your run)! because fibre can be a little harsh to our stomach. Eating too much of fibre before your run will most likely cause stomach bloatness. So limit the amount.
How long before your run you should eat then? This is really depending on the size of the meal and a person's adaptation.
For me, I would eat about 3-5 hours before my run. Yup, the timing gap is important if you want to get rid of stomach upset issue like side stitches.

Quorn is making its way from the UK to Manila this year and I was invited to a food tasting at the Madrid Fusion Manila 2016 last weekend. I got to try a selection of delicious and healthy Filipino dishes (with a twist, of course!) all made with Quorn.
Their products are made from Mycoprotein, a nutritionally healthy protein source made from a type of fungus that is MEAT-FREE so you can create healthier versions of your favorite everyday meals. Unlike other meat substitutes which are commonly made from soy, Quorn is much healthier than meat as it's low in fat and high in protein and fiber. It also takes about 5 times less energy to product a gram of Quorn than it does a gram of meat. Quorn production is more ecologically friendly than growing huge fields of soybeans.
The best part is it tastes GREAT! I honestly couldn't tell the difference if you put Quorn next to animal meat. Quorn replicates the taste and texture of meat but with less calories, fat and cholesterol. Good for the planet, good for the body - so much win! Benefits of Chia Seeds
1) Chia seeds are naturally low in carbs and high in fibre! 2 tbsps. provide you with the 11g of fibre, which is almost half of the daily recommendation.
2) Because of all the fibre, chia seeds can absorb up to 10 times their weight in water, becoming pudding-like and expand in the stomach when eaten, which keeps you feeling fuller for longer.
3) Hence, it’s often recommended to those who want to lose weight, curb hunger and reduce food portion.
4) The high fibre content will also provide you with sustained energy throughout the day.
5) Consuming chia seeds prior to workout can also boost workout performance for up to 90 minutes. Instead of consuming those sugar-laden energy drinks, eat chia seeds instead.
6) Chia seeds are also ranked amongst the top plant based source of protein, omega-3 fatty acid and calcium.

Simple mix in about 1 tbsp. of chia seeds to 2 cups of liquid of your choice. Let it sit for about 15 minutes or overnight for the chia seeds to expand. If you want to, you can either sweeten with a little bit of honey or maple syrup, add lemon slices or ice cubes and enjoy them chilled!

* INGREDIENTS
113 g unsalted butter, very soft but not melted
1 egg white (30 - 33 gram) - at room temperature
65 g icing sugar
4 ml (3/4 tsp) vanilla extract
155 g all purpose flour
* Notes
1. Use the best butter that you can find as the quality of the butter will define the taste of the cookies.
2. Measure the egg white carefully. Too large egg white (large than 35 gram) will result in firm and hard cookies.
3. Don't use granulated sugar instead of icing sugar because it may not dissolve completely in the dough and it may result in cookies with a lot of tiny holes on the surface.
4. Use all purpose flour (10.5% - 11% protein). Bread flour gives hard cookies while cake flour makes cookies that are a bit too crumbly.
5. To make other flavours:
- Substitute 5 gram flour with 5 gram green tea powder to have green tea cookie
- Add cinnamon powder, ginger powder, lemon zest to give the cookies a winter touch.
- For chocolate flavour, you may need to add 10 - 15 gram cocoa powder and deduct 15 - 20 gram flour from the total amount of flour in the recipe (cocoa powder will make the dough drier so it's better to take some flour out).
