GASIKARA SINGLE - OUT NOW! 💥
We’re excited to share the full-length video of ‘Gasikara’ this #EarthDay2019 #世界地球日. A hip hop track recorded with first nation artists on their homeland, in dedication to the loss of habitats and species across our planet, in particular our corals. 🌏
*We learn*
This is an issue directly affecting the habitats, marine life, coral reefs and the cultures of Madagascar & Torres Strait. Artist, Sandro, raps “the lemurs and turtles” are crying 🐢😢 - as one of the world’s two great coral reefs runs along the west coast of Madagascar, Sandro’s homeland. The other is The Great Barrier Reef, of Mau Power’s homeland. 🌊🐚
The issue:
Both are dying through warming oceans. Without a reduction in increasing ocean temperatures, we will see not just the loss of another species but a whole genus.
*We listen*
‘Gasikara’ features first nation artists of islands across the Pacific and Indian Oceans, united in song. Mau Power & Sandro MC, we see Saio-Chun of the Paiwan people of Taiwan as she sings out to the ocean, Alena Murang of Borneo singing in the Sarawak rainforest.
Ben Hakalitz & Airileke of Papua New Guinea supply the driving groove, we hear the panpipes of Charles Maimarosia of the Solomon Islands, the raw musicianship of Sammy of Madagascar and the potent bamboo Pratuokng of Arthur Borman in Sarawak.
*Take part*
Big thank you to everyone who supports this project - you have an important role to play in helping us share this message for our future, planet and people. #ClimateAction
