Despite challenges of the pandemic, the 2020 Art Taipei Exhibition was a resounding success! AIT’s Cultural Affairs Officer Luke Martin attended the 2020 Art Taipei-Art Education Day Press Conference to highlight our support of the arts, along with education equality rights. Organized by the Art Taipei 2020 Executive Committee and funded by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education, the art education program brought more than 800 students from Keelung, Yilan and Taoyuan to experience the artworks and participate in a creative workshop led by Dr. Shyue-Ying Chiang, Professor of Fine Arts, National Taiwan Normal University. 國立故宮博物院和臺南市政府攜手合作，於甫落成的臺南市立圖書館新總館舉辦「藝起冒險–一場始於十七世紀的數位旅程」，本次展覽呼應圖書館及博物館同樣作為文化傳承與維護的寶庫，以讀萬卷書、行萬里路的探索角度，運用人文跨域科技的方式，呈現文化藝術之美。

The National Palace Museum (NPM) and Tainan Public Library have joined forces to organize the exhibition NPM ArtVenture at the newly-inaugurated New Main Library.The theme is aimed at highlighting the shared role of libraries and museums as receptacles where culture can be transmitted and upheld. This ten-thousand-mile journey will traverse countless book pages and scrolls, combining humanities and technology to showcase the beauty of art and culture.

本區為數位旅程的首站，請冒險家仔細觀察清代南懷仁所繪製的〈坤輿全圖〉(西元1674年)，透過認識世界，踏出探險的第一步吧！
Adventure Map
The section "Adventure Map" is the starting point for this quest. Adventurers need to carefully observe the Kunyu Quantu (Great Universal Map in 1674) from Ferdinand Verbiest in the Qing Dynasty and start the first step in your adventure!
本區展陳新媒體藝術作品「南懷仁的坤輿世界」擴增實境(AR)、「坤輿藝境-十七世紀的世界探險」虛擬實境(VR)，以及〈坤輿全圖〉、《坤輿圖說》高品質數位輸出畫，呈現十七世紀人們對於世界的認識及想像。
This area includes the AR-based new media artwork Ferdinand Verbiest's Kunyu Worldview, The Realm of Kunyu—An Adventure into the World of the 17th Century and the replica of the Kunyu Quantu are used as means to integrate real and virtual objects and take visitors on a survey through the physical geography and illustrations of various creatures from the 17th century.
仔細看一看，〈坤輿全圖〉上有好多世界各地的動物，展場裡還有古今動物對照翻翻牆，和臺南市立圖書館精選的世界地理書籍，運用多元互動方式，讓今昔文化產生交匯與對話。
Please take a close look! The AR-based Ferdinand Verbiest's Kunyu Worldview including ancient Chinese depictions of what we now call "giraffe", "turkey", "rhinoceros", "lion", and "ostrich". World maps from the collection of Tainan Public Library are also shown in this section alongside interactive exhibits for educational purposes, as to contrast ancient and modern conceptions of animals, as well as enhance understanding on historical maps and relevant records.

At the end of 2018, the National Palace Museum (NPM) collaborated with HTC's virtual reality team, VIVE, in organizing a state-of-the-art exhibition in the museum's main building,"A Journey Inside Paintings and Calligraphy- VR Art Exhibition". The exhibition showcases VR installations inspired by three different works of art from the museum's collection. It is also the first ever large-scale VR art exhibition featured in a museum with a permanent ancient Chinese art collection. Through virtual reality technology, we can now enter the extraordinary world of ancient Chinese art and calligraphy, and view the artworks in a new light and in ways never before thought possible.
2018年底，臺灣國立故宮博物院(下簡稱故宮)與HTC宏達電的虛擬實境技術團隊HTC VIVE攜手，在台北故宮正館內舉辦了院史第一次的VR藝術體驗特展，展名為再現傳奇。展覽集結了三個依據不同書畫藏品製作的VR作品同時展出，也是全球中國古美術領域類型博物館首次的大型VR體驗特展。從親身操作書法大家揮毫情境的書法VR:「自敘心境」(唐 懷素《自敘帖》)，到穿越時空，徜徉於濟南山水間的繪畫VR:「神遊幻境」 (元 趙孟頫《鵲華秋色圖》)，將數位書畫藝術帶入了新的紀元。
展廳的設計上，為了讓觀眾能安全地在遊戲範圍內戴著VR頭盔探索畫中世界。展區安排了一對一服務的工作人員隨時在玩家旁協助，並在體驗區加設地毯、幫助玩家判斷安全且正確的體驗區域。本次展廳分成四個VR體驗區以及中央一影片觀賞區。體驗區內容除了上述VR作品，更有2018年VIVE團隊以故宮《清院本清明上河圖》為藍本開發、與故宮共同推出的「清明上河圖系列VR」。玩者能微觀的細細賞玩畫作中的人物、街景、建築、民俗活動，或巨觀的在古畫時代中進行互動遊戲。
在這個展覽中，觀眾能透過繪畫研究以及現代科技，進入難以領會的古代繪畫和書法世界之中，改變了以往人們觀看書畫的方式，並能以前人無法想像的方式參與其中。

A CARNIVAL OF FANTASIES: A Special Exhibition of 21st Century Museums at the Southern Branch of the NPM is co-organized by the National Palace Museum (NPM), Musée du Louvre, Tate Modern, Musée de l'Orangerie, Alte Nationalgalerie, and the Mucha Foundation. It will soon send you on a fantastic journey through civilization across the physical and virtual realms.
嘉年華 (Carnival) 廣泛代稱慶典，源自中世紀 「狂歡節 」。屬於東方的歡樂節慶，可在歷代風俗畫中窺見，而 20 世紀蘇聯思想家巴赫金認為 「狂歡節 」亦是一場精神感官的釋放，呼應本次策展以 「新媒體藝術 」獻給觀眾一 場穿梭文明珍奇的 「幻境狂歡 」。本展除了呈現故宮近年屢獲國際大獎的虛擬實境、擴增實境及混合實境，更結合 來自多座世界頂尖博物館的精彩虛擬實境製作。展覽以故宮近年豐碩的新媒體藝術為主軸，規劃 「璀璨光河 」 、 「故宮啟航 」 、 「羅浮宮驛站 」「美學世界 」四大展區，展覽更以 「奇」字象徵博物館的珍奇藏品，「幻」字則開展科 技世界下的虛擬幻境，交織一場虛實共舞的流動盛宴。
The word "carnival" originated from the medieval period and is widely used to mean "celebration," while festivals in the East can also be found in genre paintings throughout history. Mikhail Bakhtin, the 20th Century Soviet philosopher, believed that "carnivals" were a release of the spirit and senses. Bakhtin's ideas cohere nicely with the exhibition theme as new media art brings visitors a perception of illusion and polysensory experiences. In addition to presenting the National Palace Museum's award-winning virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR) programs and other new media artworks, the exhibition will also feature incredible virtual reality experiences from leading museums around the world. This exhibition is divided into four sections: "River of Time," "NPM Voyage," "The Louvre Station" and "Aesthetic World". The other worldly features of the exhibited works are also embedded in the exhibition's Chinese title, with the word " 奇 " symbolizing the museum's rare and invaluable collections, and the word " 幻 " referring to the virtual fantasies created with modern technology.
