這張照片是 2007 年時 Vanity Fair 的綠色刊號，同時也是倡導環保議題的一期，因此請來當時早已投身推動延緩全球暖化多年的李奧納多與超可愛的小北極熊一起擔任封面人物。
1974 年出生於洛杉磯的他雖然家境並不富裕，但父母親縮衣節食就是讓他能夠進入貴族學校，從小提供最優良的教育機會，雖然他對演戲情有獨鍾，但學業成績卻一直都維持名列前茅。
5 歲時因為調皮搗蛋被逐出攝影棚，10 歲的時候，一間影視代理公司拒絕給予他演出機會，還建議他改名，但年紀還小的李奧納多當時一口回絕，之後歷經超過 50 次的面試落空，終於在 14 歲那一年接到第一份正式的小小汽車廣告，開啟他非凡的演員之路。

18 歲那一年，不僅與有幸與勞勃狄尼洛合作《男孩的生活 This Boy's Life》贏得盛讚，也與強尼戴普演出《戀戀情深 What's Eating Gilbert Grape》，稚嫩清秀的面龐讓人第一眼就難以忘懷，導演表示當時其實並不想找外型太過出色的演員，但李奧納多是所有候選人裡觀察力最為敏銳的一位，演技更因此廣受影評人愛戴。
23 歲的時候，傑克道森一角，讓他成為影史上首位男神，至今都立於不敗之地。但其實《鐵達尼號 Titanic》的導演 James Cameron 曾經表示，在首次試鏡時，李奧納多給他的第一印象其實並不好，因為他只是坐在一旁發呆抽菸，不僅缺乏朝氣也無精打采。但當開始演出愛情戲時簡直判若兩人，「就像突然被陽光照到一樣，我知道就是他了」。

他之後的動向，將主演一手打造貓王的搖滾音樂教父 Sam Phillips，並擔任編劇，另外也將演出真人真事改編的小說《Truevine》，講述 19 至 20 世紀的種族隔離制度下發生的時代悲歌。
當然還有關於多重人格分裂的小說《24個比利 The Minds of Billy Milligan》，挑戰演技的最高峰，但是目前還沒有進一步的相關消息釋出。
賣座小說《白城魔鬼The Devil in the White City》，也在他的演出名單之內，將與大導演 Martin Scorsese 再度合作，改編 19 世紀末芝加哥世界博覽會時發生的連續殺人事件。
