Quotes on the internet nowadays are telling you to work less and enjoy life more.
But that is not right.
I’m not born rich. I’m lucky to be average. I studied in government schools for my entire life. I worked part time jobs ever since high school. This is a throwback of one of it.
I was this kid wearing three layers of clothes underneath the funky uniform because I was selling yogurt and it’s freaking cold to stand in front of the huge open fridge for the entire day for 4 weekends. I was the kid selling mobile data at shopping malls and roadsides. I was the kid selling hair dyes at Anime Expo, giving out ice cream samples at roadshows, selling fabric cleanser to housewives, standing outside the club asking people to sign up for memberships, and so much more.
A lot of fresh graduates often ask me, why do I choose Dentistry and how can I be so passionate about it.
The answer is, WORK.
Work a whole lot, and figure out what you want from experience.
Working in direct sales so much made me realised that I actually love talking to people from different ages and profiles. Working with different people coming from all walks of life, whether it’s with a former gangster, a grandmother, an orphan who needs to be back by curfew after job, has opened up my eyes to so many personalities and struggles.
I figured out what’s my interest, what lifestyle am I able to SUSTAIN at it’s HIGHEST quality in my BEST mental health.
And all of these wouldn’t possibly happened if I. DON’T. WORK.
Yes. You can’t control a lot of things in life. But there’s always two things you’re in total control: your effort and your attitude.
Put in as much effort in your work as you can. Whatever work, however meaningless it may seem. And even if the reward isn’t directly in the form of cash, the reward is always there. Your communication skills. Your experience. Your mentality. Trust me, these values worth more than the money.
So Work. Learn. And you shall find what you seek.
