【新舊對照系列】英皇道與柏架山道交界：昔日糖廠華工宿舍，今日廣廈群樓
一八八四年港島鰂魚涌太古煉糖廠投產，在柏架山腳以北的山谷興建宿舍予糖廠員工，宿舍範圍稱為「鰂魚涌村」。
【上圖】鰂魚涌村的位置在柏架山道與斯丹利台之間，北鄰英皇道。村內三排南北並列的宿舍，造就了兩條街道，靠柏架山道（北角方向）的稱西街，靠斯丹利台（筲箕灣方向）的稱東街。 村後還設一所小學「太古漢文學校」及街市，作為員工生活的配套。
在六十年代之初，為配合東區的發展，東、西二街的宿舍拆卸重建。在村後靠近太古水塘處闢地另建四座十層高的宿舍，設有升降機，以安置原有糖廠職工及遷入部份船塢工人。及至八十年代船塢轉型，這四幢冠以「太」字為名的宿舍單位業權優先售予當時入住的員工。
【下圖】偌大的鰂魚涌村地段原意是發展為大型屋苑「栢嘉新村」，但最終未能成事，後由不同發展商在原地興建益發、益昌、福昌、海山、海景等多層式住宅樓群。樓群座落在祐民街與柏架山道之間，迄今仍然壁立英皇道。
The Quarry Bay Village (鰂魚涌村)
In this area, there were quarters to accommodate Chinese workers of Taikoo Sugar Refinery and Taikoo Dockyard and was known as Quarry Bay Village. Adjacent to King’s Road, the village was situated between the west side of Stanley Terrace (土丹利台) and east of Mt. Parker Road(柏架山道).
In the Village, three lines of quarter houses were oriented from south to north (adjacent to King’s Road) to accommodate two streets, namely East Street and West Street. As welfare facilities, a primary school (Taikoo Chinese School太古漢文學校) and a market place were established at the rear of the Village.
In early 1960s, the quarters in both West and East Streets were pull down. The relevant lands were sold to other land developers to build multi-storey residential accommodation: Yick Fat Bldg.(益發大廈), Fok Cheong Bldg.(福昌大廈) and Oceanic Bldg (海景大廈). Nowadays we can see these building along King’s Road between Yau Man St. and Mt. Parker Road.
To cope with the dismantling of the Village, four blocks of ten-storey quarters, with elevator, were built at the rear of the Village to accommodate the Workers. In 1980s during Taikoo’s cease of industrial activities in Quarry Bay, these quarters were sold to the occupant workers in top priority. These four blocks with name beginning with “Tai” is currently existing.
