Had some 饭 reading this informative article on the history of the ubiquitous rice cooker, and how a Japanese woman had the biggest influence in its development. It’s a good read, especially after the recent BBC Food video that went viral because of the host’s unconventional method of preparing the rice for the egg fried rice recipe. I’m sure many of us do this differently!

Countless Asian families rely on the rice cooker, but there are many ways to cook rice. Whether it’s nasi goreng or 炒饭, or even rice dishes like biryani and chicken rice, I’m happy to have a smorgasbord of choices in Singapore that everyone can enjoy. In support of the Health Promotion Board, Singapore though, perhaps some options with brown rice too? – LHL

❤ “The Dream of Red Mansions”, an early, lengthy masterpiece, is about to be performed in Malaysia for the first time in drama form. With the play based on the original historical novel of the same name, Symphony Theatre is bound to portray for you an unforgettable, passionate, and heart-rending love story.

❤This time, Symphony Theatre invited Jessie Chung to take the stage as lead actress, portraying the pure and unadulterated Lin Daiyu. The lead actor, Terry Lim, was chosen out of a ton of applicants from around the world. Joining the ranks is lead actor of “Meant to Be”, the romantic, princelike American director Paul Lee and lead actor of “Music Box”, the charismatic heartthrob Jeffrey Beh!

❤It is worth mentioning that many people believe for Lin Daiyu of “The Dream of Red Mansions” to be the epitome of frailty. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Lin Daiyu was a brave and intelligent woman who dared—more than any woman in “The Dream of Red Mansions”—to challenge the worldliness around her. Many liken Lin Daiyu to a lotus, because the flower is known to grow out of the mud unsoiled. Jessie Chung is an international recording artist and actress based in Australia, currently under the management of Future Entertainment & Music Group. True to her multitalented status, she is also a doctor of medicine in oncology, naturopathic doctor (US), certified nutritional consultant (US), homeopathic doctor, certified iridologist, biotech researcher, accomplished entrepreneur, author, martial arts coach, and philanthropist from Malaysia. Besides holding a doctor of medicine degree (M.D.) in Clinical Chinese and Western Integrative Medicine—Oncology from Guangzhou University of TCM, China, she also possesses a Master of Business Administration from The University of South Australia and a Bachelor of Science in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oriental Medical Institute, Hawaii, USA. In recent years, she was the only naturopathic oncologist selected as one of the Hummingbird Cancer Centre leading members to head their natural therapy department. Her passion for music was evident at a young age as she racked up numerous singing competition awards. In junior high school, Jessie was the only youth representative in the entire district selected to sing at the National Day Celebration. She then proceeded to perform on many TV programmes in subsequent years. Her high school years in Canada was highlighted by her participation in an international talent contest held by TVB, and she successfully entered into the finals at the ripe age of sixteen. Besides singing, Jessie also has a gift for musical instruments, passing grade 8 organ at a young age with distinction, under the examination of Japanese auditors. In 2013, she took on lead actress in the Chinese film Faces and Malaysian film Unchanging Love. She also appeared in the 2014 film Kungfu Taboo. She is known for her ebullient and enigmatic concert performances in countries all around the world, including the United States, Canada, China, Taiwan, and Malaysia. With experience in dozens of concerts in five different languages, Jessie yielded huge responses from fans around the world during her 2015 Love Unity Concert, leaving barely any space in the arena. 1. Answer:

Well to be completely honest, I don’t know the first thing about any law specifically, but if I have to think about one, I think it would be the restriction on cellphone use while driving in my country. You know, answering phone calls or texting while driving or riding motorbikes is a common sight in Vietnam therefore the government has decided to impose this restriction. Under this regulation, drivers using handheld phones while driving motorbikes have to pay a fine of 600 to 800,000 VND. They also have their driving licenses revoked for 3 months. If a violator causes a fatal accident, they will face criminal charges.

You know, answering phone calls or texting while driving or riding motorbikes is a common sight in Vietnam therefore the government has decided to impose this restriction.

What do we have to do if we violate the regulation?

Under this regulation, drivers using handheld phones while driving motorbikes have to pay a fine of 600 to 800,000 VND.

They also have their driving licenses revoked for 3 months.

If a violator causes a fatal (= chết người) accident, they will face criminal charges.

2. Reason

harm people’s life = /ˈdʒepərdaɪz/ = jeopardise

In my opinion I think this regulation is absolutely reasonable because with technology growing rapidly, cell phone becomes more dangerous as it jeopardises people’s life.

Drivers who use cell phone to text are most likely to look over their phones than the road and can take away a life in the blink of an eye. Therefore they fail to concentrate and reduce their vision of the road ahead.

3. Example

In fact, there was this deadly (=fatal) accident in Hanoi’s Bac Tu Liem. It happened because a truck driver was talking a phone while driving and ran into a motorbike, killing a woman and her son right on the spot. (=immediately)

4. Alternative

There are also some people argue that hands-free mobile phone is not dangerous because people can drive using both of their hands. This may even worsen the situation by suggesting that the behavior is safe.

When a car swerves unexpectedly or pedestrians step into traffic, and the mind lacks the processing power to react on time.
