嗨大家好
我是在TAMU讀MCS的學生(背景可查我之前發的錄取文)
今年要畢業 我來簡單介紹TAMU CSE
很多學生錄取這間時都是以MSCS(要寫論文)的身份進來
但是過了一陣子都紛紛轉到MEN or MCS(不用寫論文的)
1. 選課
MEN 和 MCS 分別都要修十門課
前者選課彈性 只要修完兩們電機系的課(課隨你挑) 剩下八門課隨便選
後者就有一些必修 像是OS Architecture 二選一
但兩個出去找工作都沒差 反正一樣看實力
然後TAMU CS課程 比較偏在Machine Learning, AI, Robitics, Algorithm 這幾塊
Network, Security 等等就少非常多
但Security之後會很強 然後會繼續找老師
因為找了一個以前在Darpa做資安的退伍軍官要成立資安中心
我修過這老師的課 他真的頗強的 然後雄心壯志
Network方面就...因為我本來一剛開始進來也是在做Network...所以
真的對Network有興趣就找其他學校吧...

2.1 TAMU CS 未來趨勢
A&M最近瘋狂再擴大(電機系新系館正在蓋 CS聽說會牽系館)
TAMU的目標是在2020年工學院擴張成現在2倍
所以瘋狂在找老師(比較像是在挖角 像是UF做Sparse Matrix大咖Tim Davis就被挖過來)
研究的方向感覺也漸漸要往現在最紅的Big Data, Machine Learning偏
新進老師都跟這些領域相關
所以排名也很明顯在往上升 我之前查過資料 2008年排名好像才5X
到了最後一次排名已經爬到40 當然排名就很主觀 見仁見智
像我能錄取這間有點靠運氣 看到他最近錄取和收進來學生
就覺得現在CS競爭有點病態
2.2 TAMU and TAMU CS缺點
1. A&M CS因為便宜 所以國際學生搶得很兇 你上課60個人 白人變成minority(5人以內)
當然這好像在各校CS都差不多
2. 課程相對於一些大CS學校 不是那麼多元
3. 目前系館還是跟航太系共用(我是覺得沒差)
4. TAMU前生是個軍校 強的科系在農工學院 研究缺乏liberal arts的氣息
5. 學校建築根本就跟交大一樣 土黃色方方正正的建築
3. 學費+生活費
德州有規定 只要你找得到funding>=$1000 你就只要繳州民學費
以一學期九學分來算 你繳非州民學費是$7XXX 州民就是$3XXX
房租看你要住多好 是否要跟別人合租 一個月$300-$2000都有可能
4. 找工作
我目前周遭朋友 沒有一個沒找到工作
而且大多數都留在德州
也有去加州DC CS畢業的 每個最終都有工作
也不是去那種爛公司 薪水都還不錯
5.德州好嗎?
你平常都會幹他很無聊 除了牛多草多太陽大
真的沒什麼可以去的地方 但是你就是會想留下來
這邊物價真的很便宜 油價更是扯現在一加侖$1.60 (台幣就是一公升台幣13)
房價也頗便宜(但是有在漲的趨勢)
最重要的是 我覺得德州人雖然是共和黨大本營
但是他們對外國人非常非常友善 這點讓我剛來時有點訝異
總結:
我無法評論USC怎樣 因為我沒讀過也沒研究過
但是我來TAMU讀書 我覺得收獲很多也很快樂
我到這裡第二年就找到funding 所以兩年包含生活費
花了$3XXXX左右而已 相信跟其他學校比 這算真的很便宜

所以A&M已經不是軍校 只是有在受訓軍官的學校
