Deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Chia Chwee Leong, at the ripe old age of 93. He and my father knew each other for more than 75 years. Their friendship survived the Japanese Occupation, Singapore’s independence, marriages, children, grandchildren and widowerhood.
Mr Chia first met my father in 1939 as students in RI and Raffles College. They lost touch when my father went to England to study, but after he came back, he looked up his old friend and they picked up where they last left off.
For 40 years, my parents would visit Mr Chia’s family at Chinese New Year. They did this every year until 2010, the year my mother passed away.
Mr Chia attended the wakes of both my mother and father. I am glad that my father had such a loyal and true friend. My deepest condolences to his children and loved ones on their loss. - LHL
