The different South Asian ethnic communities all have long histories in Singapore. Tamils form the largest group, but we also have thriving Malayalee, Sikh, and Bengali communities. The Sikhs will be celebrating Vaisakhi, while the others will be marking their new years tomorrow.
I took the photo of the Silat Road Sikh Temple one evening in March 2015, after visiting my father who was then hospitalised in SGH. It was beautifully lit, a serene and inspiring presence at a time of worry and sadness. I thought it would not be out of place to share it now. We are battling COVID-19, and thinking about those among us who are ill with the disease.
The Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple photo was taken in October 2016, on a jalan jalan in Little India to see the Deepavali light up. I am not sure when we will be able to do light ups again, but we will keep the light of confidence and hope shining bright in our hearts.

கொவிட்-19 நோய்ப் பரவலை முறியடிப்பதற்கான அதிரடித் திட்டம் நடப்பில் இருக்கும் வேளையில், கொண்டாட்டங்கள் நடைபெற முடியாவிட்டாலும், நமது ஒற்றுமை உணர்வு மேலோங்கியிருக்கிறது. அனைத்து இனங்களைச் சேர்ந்த சிங்கப்பூரர்களும் தத்தம் வழிகளில் அதனை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறார்கள்.
