It is five weeks since I spoke about the COVID-19 situation in Singapore. So it is timely to update Singaporeans again on the medical, economic and psychological outlooks of the situation.
Today, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. This means that while the situation in Singapore remains under control, the COVID-19 threat will be with us for a long time. We cannot be complacent.
There are some baseline precautions we must get used to, like maintaining good personal hygiene and not holding large gatherings. We must also plan ahead in case a major outbreak happens in Singapore, like in South Korea or Italy.
If a major outbreak happens, we will need more stringent social distancing measures, such as suspending schools and compulsory telecommuting. These will slow down the rate of transmission and prevent our healthcare system from being overwhelmed.
Already our economy has been seriously impacted, so we are working on a second stimulus package to support businesses and workers.
Singapore’s response to COVID-19 has been recognised by the WHO and the international community. This is through the efforts of many Singaporeans, from the frontline staff to all of us keeping #SGclean. I thank all Singaporeans who are dealing with this calmly and responsibly. We must keep up our efforts, and remain #SGUnited. – LHL

I am deeply saddened by my sister Dr Lee Wei Ling’s claim that I have abused my power to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s passing in order to establish a dynasty. The accusations are completely untrue.
The first anniversary of a person’s passing is a significant moment to remember him and reflect on what he meant to us. The more so with Mr Lee Kuan Yew. The Cabinet had discussed how we should mark the occasion. My advice was that we should leave it to ground-up efforts. Groups should keep their observances in proportion, and focussed on the future.
The Cabinet recognised the strong desire of many Singaporeans to show their respect for Mr Lee, and honour what he did for us. We reviewed the events and observances that different groups had planned, and agreed that they were generally appropriate. They expressed the sincerely felt sentiments of Singaporeans, which my Cabinet colleagues and I deeply appreciate.
The idea that I should wish to establish a dynasty makes even less sense. Meritocracy is a fundamental value of our society, and neither I, the PAP, nor the Singapore public would tolerate any such attempt.

Growing up as an Asian, I somehow believed that racism was just part of the package. Being called a “chink” and “gook” was nothing out of the ordinary. You just hoped that in time, things might get better. A memory I will never forget is walking home with my grandmother. I was around 8 or 9 years old at the time. We had to cut across the park in order to get home. I remember seeing a group of several teenagers sitting over the gate and already I felt fear knowing we had to pass them. Please just let us pass quietly, I thought. I can’t remember exactly what was said but rocks were thrown. My elderly grandmother hovered over me to protect me the best she could. She doesn’t speak much english but even then, she threw out all the swear words she knew. I was in shock. I remember peering under her armpit and I recognised one of the faces. She’s the sister of my big sister’s friend. She looked at me straight in the eye. She didn’t tell them to stop. A week or two later she would end up coming to my house to see my sister. My grandmother didn’t recognise her but I did. We put food on the table for her. Our parents did their best to protect us and give us the life they wanted for themselves, it’s time we protected them.
There is so much we can learn from the elderly. A the same time, they deserve even more care and attention because they are more vulnerable. Knowing they have become targets make me sick to the stomach. Those who prey on the defenceless are cowards. Words hurt yes, but the line is so badly crossed when lives of the elderly and women are taken. Call it for what it is. Hate crime.
Please don’t be silent. Speak out. Anti-asian violence is real and surging. Don’t just love our food, love us as a community. CALL OUT HATE. Our parents and grandparents didn’t have phones back then. We live in an age where we can capture live moments. We can spread awareness. We have a voice and we should be empowered to use it to protect those who are unable to.
Bad days don’t kill people. Racism and misogyny do.
Educate. Communicate. Stop hate.
Do not let regression happen when there is already so much work to be done. To my asian friends who are scared, heartbroken and angry, I stand with you. I love you. #stopasianhate #speakout

Matryoshka dolls are one of the most known symbols of Russian culture and by no means a super cute idea for a costume if you want to stand out at an event or party! In this tutorial I'll show you how you can easily transform into a big eyed russian doll with tiny lips, step by step.
CONTACT LENSES
Aviory iFairy♥Green♥⌀16.00mm → http://www.speciallens.com/ifairy-avior-green-contact-lenses/
For those big round eyes, I'm going to put in circle lenses. However, this is optional and the makeup will look dolly also without em!
SKIN
Get a good camouflage cream that is a tad bit lighter than your skin and apply under your eyes, nose, forehead and chin. This is to conceal and highlight at once! Make sure you cover all dull and dark spots. We need to get our skin matt and even.
Now get your normal day to day liquid base foundation and apply a sheer layer over your face to even out the colour and doll up your complexion!
Since this base makeup is quite thick, let it set for 3-5 minutes. Finish with light dabs of sheer powder so you don't disturb the colour and texture of the foundation.
EYES
Luckily, The eye makeup looks more elaborate than it actually is. Wet an eyeshadow brush and create a white base over your lid. For the colour white, I recommend to use a high pigmented eye shadow but if you don't have one then just apply 2 or 3 layers more, but give the layers at least 1 minute time to dry.
With a dry brush, apply copper up to your brow bone. Colour one third of your lower lid, too. Now, with the same colour but using a WET brush, mark your brow bone. Colours applied with a wet brush come out more intense. The stroke doesn't have to be perfect as long as you're following the natural shape of your brow bone.
On a dry angled brush, apply a dark chocolate colour and draw over the line on your brow bone. Make the end of the stroke end faintly by smudging it slightly.
Wet the brush once again and apply a finishing layer of copper.
EYELASHES
Matryoshka dolls have long eyelashes, emphasising their youth and femininity.
Apply dark and dramatic, or even theatrical under eye lashes. Glue them from the middle of your eye up to your brow bone.
Now we'll need long upper eyelashes with a flexible lash band, Stick them on your eye lid, close to the crease. Don't blink until the glue has completely dried!
Enlarging your eyes this dramatically will probably get your brows out of proportion, so make sure to elongate them as well!
One thing almost all Russian dolls have in common are their delicate, teeny tiny rosebud lips. Wet a small brush, choose the most intense scarlet in your makeup box, and with great care, follow your lip's silhouette. Let the brush slip at your mouths corner to create a wing so it looks like you're smiling. But if you're not in the mood, you can let the wings point downwards and be a grumpy matryoshka instead! :)
Pat the same colour you used for your lips on your cheek apples and blend until there are no clear edges to be recognised.
HAIR
If your hair is long then this style will be super simple. Just twist a braid for each side of your hair. Pull the ends up to the top of your head and fix all areas well with bobby pins.
All that's left to do now is to cover your head with a shawl and tie a ribbon! Here I'm wearing a real Russian hand painted Pavlovo shawl like a real babushka! Other patterns I recommend for the Russian doll look are POLKA DOT, LACE or a simple red scarve looks cute too! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and maybe you're ready to start your own transformation into a cute matryoshka!

A Chinese shop owner recently talked to me about how he ended up getting given fake money, and also after my last video many people were surprised to see the machine at the shop that checks cash to see if it's real or not, is fake and counterfeit money really such a big problem in China? Is it getting any better? How can you tell if the cash you've been given is real or fake? Watch this video to find out!
When paper money was introduced in China in the 13th century, wood from mulberry trees was used to make the money. To control access to the paper, guards were stationed around mulberry forests, while counterfeiters were punished by death.
In the 1990s, the portrait of Chairman Mao Zedong was placed on the banknotes of the People's Republic of China to combat counterfeiting, as he was recognised better than the generic designs on the renminbi notes.
Some of the ill-effects that counterfeit money has on society include a reduction in the value of real money; and increase in prices (inflation) due to more money getting circulated in the economy - an unauthorized artificial increase in the money supply; a decrease in the acceptability of paper money; and losses, when traders are not reimbursed for counterfeit money detected by banks, even if it is confiscated.
Traditionally, anti-counterfeiting measures involved including fine detail with raised intaglio printing on bills which would allow non-experts to easily spot forgeries. On coins, milled or reeded (marked with parallel grooves) edges are used to show that none of the valuable metal has been scraped off. This detects the shaving or clipping (paring off) of the rim of the coin. However, it does not detect sweating, or shaking coins in a bag and collecting the resulting dust. Since this technique removes a smaller amount, it is primarily used on the most valuable coins, such as gold. In early paper money in Colonial North America, one creative means of deterring counterfeiters was to print the impression of a leaf in the bill. Since the patterns found in a leaf were unique and complex, they were nearly impossible to reproduce.
