Ali is the last one to leave for school everyday. So the two of us get to spend time with each other for half an hour in the morning. We normally spend time reading his favourite book. Well, that only happens on my good health days. On my bad health days, he will keep himself occupied with doodling.
Today, I woke up feeling miraculously great. Even my husband excitedly pointed out how well I was, considering yesterday, I couldn’t even lift my left arm. These were his exact words: “Watch out kids, look how fast Mummy is walking. She’s definitely going to move some mountains today!” 💪🏻💪🏻
Waking up feeling great plus that boost from my husband just shot my motivation up to the sky. So, I said to Ali, “Let’s not read a book today. Let me sing you a song!” He quickly ran towards me and I started singing the first few lines of ‘Shallow’. All of a sudden, he was staring at me with teary eyes! He quickly rubbed them and said ‘“I hurt my eyes, Mummy.” 🥺
That moment, I realised that it had been a while since I last sang a song for him. This illness of mine is stealing away my time with my children. It kills me to see my 3-year-old son trying to hold his tears. It feels like he’s trying to be strong for me, as if he understands the pain I’m going through. Well, of course he does. He’s a smart boy - bless him!
So I gave him a hug. A very tight one! I kept on singing to him while I hid my face away so that he couldn’t see the tears streaming down my face. As soon as the song finished, he quickly requested another one. Guess what he requested? He calls it the superhero song - ‘Something Just Like This’! What a cool choice for a 3-year-old! 😎
So, the aftermath of waking up feeling great + a motivational boost from my husband + an emotional moment with Ali = I cooked up a storm today! We had my signature Rose Pilaf and Chettinad Chicken Curry with Raita and Egg Salad on the side for dinner and Strawberry Trifle for dessert - Alhamdulillah ♥️
Motivated yet emotional,
Mrs Mom
