DYAM Mejar Jeneral Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, Tunku Mahkota Johor
———
Today, I attended the ground-breaking ceremony for the second TUNKU MAHKOTA ISMAIL YOUTH CENTRE (TMIYC), which will be built in Muar.
The TMIYC MUAR is my idea and vision to strengthen youth development by having a YOUTH CENTRE in every district in Johor. TMIYC MUAR will be equipped with various facilities for the benefit of youths and will be the focal point for personal development and group activities.
The aim of TMIYC MUAR is to provide a conducive space for the Johor youth to hone their talents for their personal development with complete facilities and group learning activities.
In the future, the youth community in Muar and nearby districts would not need to travel far to enjoy facilities such as a fully synthetic football pitch, extreme sports venue, futsal courts and dormitories for short stays. It is my hope and desire to bring development to the entire state as well as Johoreans, especially the youth community.
Besides building the YOUTH CENTRE in Muar, I also made a RM300,000 contribution to poor students from 96 villages around Muar. I hope the assistance will help meet their educational needs.
My target is to build the YOUTH CENTRE in every district in Johor. We now have the TMIYC JOHOR BAHRU that was officially opened on 21 December 2020, and today the ground-breaking ceremony was held for the TMIYC MUAR.
I will continue to work hard to develop the YOUTH CENTRE in order to build up the youth community to form role models who are honest, responsible and compassionate. This is my vision for Johor and I will make it a reality.
I would also like to thank Youth & Sports Minister YB Dato' Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican and the Youth & Sports Ministry for their support in realising the TMIYC dream.

Like all of us, I was shocked by yesterday’s tragic incident at River Valley High School. We cannot make sense of what happened. Words fail us because we cannot understand.
We are overwhelmed imagining what the victim’s family are going through. Yesterday morning, they sent off their 13-year-old son to school. Suddenly, without any warning, he is no more.
My heart goes out to his family. I know we cannot properly express our sympathy, or offer much comfort in their sudden calamity. But still, I would like them to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.
The teachers and students of RVHS are also in shock. We will help you walk through this dark valley, and come to terms with what has happened.
The police are still investigating this case, to find out the motivations behind this tragedy, and if something could have been done to avert it. Let us wait for them to complete their work. Let us not worsen the trauma and grief of the affected families with speculation and rumour.
We place great emphasis on safety in our schools, and the well-being of teachers and students. Our education system is not only about good academic performance, but also helping our kids to grow into happy and well-adjusted persons. If staff or students know a pupil or classmate who seems troubled or under stress, please let the principal or school counsellors know. They will work together with the families to provide help.
Beyond our schools, the pandemic has been tough on everyone. If sometimes things seem too much to bear, please remember help is always available, even if it’s just to talk to someone about what’s on your mind:

We are all in this together. We are each other’s keepers. Let’s continue to look out for one another. – LHL

Glad that COVID-19 case #42, a Bangladeshi worker, has been moved into a general ward, after two long months in the ICU. His healthcare team have done a tremendous job, just as they have done with all their patients. Case #42 still has a long recovery journey ahead, but he is in good hands. His baby son was born last month while he was in ICU. I wish him a smooth recovery, and hope he will be reunited with his family soon.
Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers for their selfless dedication to saving lives. I am grateful for all their hard work caring for their patients. They have been working under great pressure, and are doing a first-class job.
I am also heartened by how Singaporeans are stepping up to help. Sudesna Roy Chowdhury, an NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine graduate, built a website in 8 hours to provide English-Bengali translation of common phrases for medical officers attending to Bangladeshi patients (https://go.gov.sg/5s87xs). Her sisters, both doctors, and parents pitched in to help. Her website is now being replicated into other languages.
The fight against COVID-19 cannot be won by any single individual. But through our collective efforts, Singapore will overcome this challenge. – LHL

Hello Internet, my name is Ray, I'm a YouTuber from Taiwan, and this is an open letter to the World Health Organization.
Dear WHO, I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but a lot of your members have been voicing support for the inclusion of Taiwan in the WHO.
Since the novel coronavirus outbreak was designated as a global health emergency, core WHO members and their heads of state and officials, including Justin Trudeau, Shinzo Abe, 7 American senators, and the European Union (and more), have called on you to grant at the very least observer status to Taiwan. Having said that, I feel like as a Taiwanese citizen, it’s imperative that we also speak up for ourselves.
Disease knows no boundaries. Taiwan’s participation in the WHO is crucial not just to Taiwan but also to the world. A concerted, global effort is the only way to ensure the health and welfare of everyone. The coronavirus that began in Wuhan, China, has already spread to other regions and countries, excluding Taiwan could make it a "blind spot" in the international response to the disease.
Additionally, back in 2003, the SARS outbreak resulted in 73 lives taken in Taiwan. If we had been included in the WHO back then, we would’ve had better understanding of the virus and maybe, who knows, more lives could have been saved.
But we’re not just here playing the victim here, Taiwan can help. Taiwan’s healthcare system is lauded as among the best in the world, and our medical standards are generally on par with top global countries. The inclusion of Taiwan in world health assemblies and events would enable it to share its invaluable experiences in combating SARS, Ebola and other pandemics, helping countries around the world, including China. With our universal health coverage, health emergency response, and professional medical training, Taiwan can benefit the world.
Now you might say, Taiwan’s already represented by China in the WHO, but Taiwan’s geological separation and its independent disease control system and air traffic management provide further justification to why the WHO must take different approaches to Taiwan and China amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Also, given our proximity, Taiwan is at the very frontline battling this coronavirus from China, and we are skilled, determined, and equipped with past experiences combating different viruses. Excluding us is putting close to 24 million lives and the global population at risk.
As a Taiwanese, as a member of the global community, I am asking you on behalf of the world to include Taiwan. By allowing our participation in the WHO, you will be realizing the organization’s vision of health as a basic human right and health for all without exception. Thank you for your time.
