Why is there a need to paint the MRT track concrete supporting structure? Neither do Singapore MRT nor Bangkok BTS have painting on their structures. Because concrete bare finish on public transportation structure means cost saving in the construction stage and ZERO painting maintenance cost throughout the lifespan of the entire future. Can you imagine how much it would cost to repaint all the tracks and pillars every 5 years? This is a contract corruption loophole the developer can play around with. The future painting contractor who got awarded for the painting maintenance would earn a luxurious sum from it. The MRT operator would have one more excuse to increase the MRT fare due to high maintenance cost. Painting is definitely an item to be scrapped off if corruption-free value engineering practice was conducted before the MRT contract was awarded. Tax payers' money shouldn't be wasted like this. Some Datuk and Datin will open a painting firm once the MRT starts its operation.
