May Day is usually a joyous occasion to celebrate the achievements of our workers and unions. But amidst COVID-19, this year’s event is more sombre.
May Day is an appropriate moment to thank our brothers and sisters, especially those on the front lines, and those performing essential services. You have kept Singapore going, and far exceeded the call of duty.
Our economy has taken a beating from the pandemic. The circuit breaker has been hard for everyone. Businesses and jobs have been disrupted. But we must hunker down, to stop the virus from spreading, so that we can progressively restart our economy.
Meanwhile, the government is working hard to support companies, and protect workers. We are implementing $60 billion in support measures, through the Unity, Resilience, and Solidarity Budgets.
Our forefathers had the foresight to put aside reserves for emergencies like this. We too have to keep an eye on the future, and work together to make sure Singapore emerges stronger from COVID-19.

Test, Trace, Vaccinate.
These are three things that we have to do more, and do faster, in the next phase of the fight against COVID-19.
First, we should expect routine, large-scale, fast and simple testing to be part of the new normal. Extensive testing will make us safer, and give us confidence to resume larger scale events.
Second, we will contact trace more widely and aggressively. This will help us save time and shut down clusters more quickly.
Third, we will vaccinate more people, and faster. In the June school holidays we will vaccinate students 12 and above, with priority given to graduating cohorts and special needs students.
Next will come young adults 39 and younger. Among this large group, Singaporeans will have a two-week head start.
Three quarters of those 60 and above have had their jabs. If you are 60 and above but still haven’t been vaccinated, please do it soon as possible. You needn’t register or book beforehand. Just turn up at any Vaccination Centre to get your jab. If you are not mobile, call the Silver Generation Office for assistance.
With our accelerated programme, provided vaccine supplies come in as planned, everyone who is eligible should be able to get at least their first jab by National Day.
In the new normal, we will keep our community safe, while reopening progressively and positioning ourselves for the future. We will not allow COVID-19 to dominate our lives, but learn to carry on with the virus in our midst.
Infected persons may slip through from time to time, but as long as our population is mostly vaccinated, we should be able to trace, isolate, and treat cases that pop up, and prevent a severe and disastrous outbreak.
Countries that are united, disciplined and put in place sensible safeguards, will be able to reopen their economies, reconnect with the world, grow and prosper. Singapore will be among these countries. – LHL

You may have seen COVID-19 swab tests being administered at void decks and other areas in your neighbourhood. These swab test operations are part of the government’s efforts to keep our community safe as we continue to reopen our economy and allow more activities to resume. We are offering these tests to selected groups whose work involves more frequent interaction with the public, like stall holders and food delivery riders.
I visited the COVID-19 screening centre at Blk 402 in Ang Mo Kio today, and was glad to see many coming forward to be swabbed. Beyond AMK, the testing operations will also be progressively rolled out to other parts in Singapore. This testing exercise requires the joint efforts of multiple agencies working closely together with community partners. Thank you to all the teams managing this, and keep up the good work! – LHL

We decided to do the ice bucket challenge... but with a horrible twist ;)
On the same note of charity, we chose to donate $100 each to Children's cancer foundation: http://www.ccf.org.sg There are other charities that could really use some of our help
Jianhao also decided for us to donate to Habitat for Humanity because he feels for it http://www.habitat.org.sg/donate.html
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. You can learn more about ALS from http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html
Every thought counts, do your part and make someone's life a little better today. Make a donation at https://secure2.convio.net/alsa/site/Donation2;jsessionid=3EFF428407EBAD49E0A9855D33FD2767.app293b?df_id=27420&27420.donation=form1

Where are Silver Play buttons made? Only an hour's drive away from my apartment in China! Let's go find the factory together!
YouTube Play Buttons, a part of the YouTube Creator Rewards, care a recognition by YouTube of its most popular channels.
These are distinct from the YouTube Awards which are intended to recognize the best quality videos, while the YouTube Creator Rewards are based solely on a channel's subscriber count.
Awards
When a verified YouTuber reaches a specific milestone, they are awarded a relatively flat trophy in a metal casing with a YouTube play button symbol. The trophies are of different sizes: each button and plaque get progressively bigger the more subscribers the channel gets.
There are currently three levels of rewards, plus a fourth one that has been awarded to only one YouTuber thus far:
YouTube Silver Play Button - The Silver Play Button, for channels that surpass 100,000 subscribers. Old version made of nickel plated copper-nickel alloy.
YouTube Gold Play Button - The Gold Play Button, for channels that surpass 1,000,000 subscribers. Made of golden plated brass.
YouTube Diamond Play Button - The Diamond Play Button, for channels that surpass 10,000,000 subscribers. Made of silver plated metal inset with a large piece of crystal in the shape of a play button triangle.
In December 2016, YouTuber PewDiePie received a ruby trophy, known as the Ruby Play Button, as a gift for reaching 50,000,000 subscribers. It was made in the shape of his channel's logo. It is not referenced in the Creators Award page and it is unknown if such a trophy will be given out to any other YouTuber who surpasses the milestone in the future.
