"Using public sector policy acumen and private sector business skillsets, Taiwan and the United States will continue to reinforce democratic and free market principles that underpin our values and while spurring development for the future," AIT Director Brent Christensen said in his opening remarks at this year’s fourth virtual Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Webinar titled “Advancing International Development through Public Private Partnerships.”

Taking place on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly, speakers from Taipei, New York, and Tokyo shared their views on how the GCTF platform can help build public private partnerships to advance international development goals and cooperation during today’s workshop, which was co-hosted by AIT, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association.

GCTF (Global Cooperation and Training Framework) 合作平台於2015年成立來已舉辦26場國際研習營，邀請來自53個國家，超過850位相關領域的政府官員及專家與會，成果豐碩。在此既有良好合作基礎上，台灣將持續透過GCTF與美國、日本及其他理念相近國家與友邦，深化在全球事務上的實質合作。

This year’s fourth virtual Global Cooperation and Training Framework webinar was recently co-hosted by MOFA, the American Institute in Taiwan and the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, featuring speakers from #Taipei, #NewYork and Tokyo, addressing how public-private partnerships can help in achieving international development goals.

Over 100 officials from 20 countries took part. Among the speakers was US permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Kelly Craft, who called #Taiwan “a force for good in the world” and acknowledged our commitment to #education, #health, and #CivilLiberties. She also echoed recent calls at the #UNGA for Taiwan’s inclusion in the United Nations.

MOFA Minister Joseph Wu spoke of how Taiwan has lots of expertise to share with the world and lots to contribute.

THE GLOBAL GOALS
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals (officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs). It's now five years on, and we have more work than ever to do. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.

I have a weird habit of speaking in Korean when I wake up from anaesthesia. I'm not sure why it happens, but I decided to upload the video as I thought it would be interesting when viewed through a linguistics/cultural lens. And yes, I have of course learned Korean before - I don't think it's possible to magically wake up speaking a language without previous exposure. The first video on my channel was a polyglot video I made in 2013, and 4 years later, the time has come for me to update. Some of my languages have improved, some have not, and some new ones have come along. I hope this inspires you on your language journey - I would love to hear what you're learning and how you learn!

I do not claim to be fluent in any of these languages: language learning is a lifelong journey and fluency is a construct. I just wish to share my love of languages with the world and I also make videos in various languages to track my progress over the years.
