美國在台協會處長酈英傑今天在一場由美國在台協會、台灣外交部、經濟部、歐洲經貿辦事處、日本台灣交流協會以及外貿協會所舉辦的「重組供應鏈：促進理念相近夥伴間之韌性論壇」上致詞。本論壇的主旨為討論各項政策工具，以重組供應鏈，同時確保商業和經濟能夠蓬勃發展。各方也將在這項共同優先事項上，積極拓展雙邊、區域及全球的合作機會。

酈英傑處長在演說中指出：「這次疫情暴露出過度依賴單一國家或供應商提供醫療器材及藥品等關鍵物資，乃至具戰略重要性產業之材料供應，所帶來的高度風險……在我們為後疫情時代進行規畫，並評估全球供應鏈必須做出哪些改變時，有一件事是無庸置疑的：台灣已經一再展現，在邁向更加永續的全球經濟的路途上，台灣是可靠的夥伴，也是關鍵的要角。」

“The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the risks of relying too much on a single country or supplier for critical materials like medical supplies and pharmaceuticals and for inputs to strategically important industries…As we plan for a post-pandemic world and evaluate what changes to the global supply chain are necessary, one thing is certain: Taiwan has demonstrated time and again that it is a reliable partner and a critical player for moving toward a more sustainable global economy.” AIT Director Brent Christensen, speaking today at a Forum on Supply Chain Restructuring: Improving Resilience Amongst Like-Minded Partners, organized by AIT, Taiwan’s MOFA, MOEA, EETO, JTEA, and TAITRA. The purpose of the Forum was to discuss a variety of policy tools to restructure supply chains while ensuring that businesses and economies can thrive. The program explored bilateral, regional, and global opportunities for cooperation on this shared priority.

Had a good discussion with fellow leaders at the virtual 36th ASEAN Summit today.

In my intervention, I spoke about strengthening cooperation by sharing technologies to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, working as a region to procure an equitable, steady and affordable supply of treatments and vaccines, and upholding the international trading system and maintaining supply chain connectivity.

How we respond to this crisis will decide whether ASEAN forges ahead of the competition or falls behind. We must stand united to overcome the challenges ahead, enhance regional economic integration, and work towards the long-term safety and prosperity of the region.

My thanks to Vietnam for hosting a successful virtual summit during this unprecedented time. I look forward to our next meeting at the ASEAN Summit this year. – LHL

Taiwan’s fight against the COVID-19 began immediately after its outbreak. Based on past experience and effective command, Taiwan’s quick response contributed to a relatively good control of the spread of COVID-19. Domestic production of face mask has hit 20 million pieces per day, which helps calm the hearts and minds of people. Now, Taiwan is engaged in the economic and market revitalization, takes preemptive actions by working hand in hand with the U.S. in pursuing economic growth and transformation of both sides.
