你知道全球製造的多達83億公噸的廢棄物中，有63億公噸是塑膠廢棄物嗎？而其中只有9%被回收再利用。剩下的絕大多數，高達79%被棄置在垃圾掩埋場、或是直接扔在自然環境中成為垃圾！美國和台灣正合作一起解決這個全球性問題。就在周二11月3日，美國在台協會處長酈英傑參與由美國台灣日本荷蘭共同舉辦的「全球合作暨訓練架構（GCTF）運用循環經濟模式處理海洋廢棄物」線上國際研討會。將近700名來自16個國家的產官學界和非政府組織專家參與了第一場線上研習營，與來自美國、台灣、日本及荷蘭的專家學習最佳實務。

Did you know of the 8.3 billion metric tons of waste produced worldwide; 6.3 billion metric tons are plastic waste? Of that, only nine percent has been recycled. Most of the rest, —79 percent—is accumulating in landfills or is littering the natural environment. The United States and Taiwan are working together to address this global issue. On November 3, AIT Director joined colleagues from United States, Taiwan, Japan, and the Netherland in hosting a virtual Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) event called “Sustainable Materials Management Solutions to Marine Debris.” Nearly 700 people from 16 countries participated in part one of this virtual workshop to learn the best practices from experts in the United States, Taiwan, Japan, and the Netherlands.
