“On the next day, an evil spirit from God came mightily on Saul, and he prophesied in the middle of the house. David played with his hand, as he did day by day. Saul had his spear in his hand; and Saul threw the spear, for he said, “I will pin David even to the wall!” David escaped from his presence twice.” (1 Samuel 18:10-11 WEB)
A lot of things are happening around us which are invisible to our naked eyes.
Do you really think that a mighty warrior like Saul would miss in throwing his spear?
Just as an evil spirit was working on Saul, good spirits (God’s angels) were probably deflecting the spear to protect David.
You see, weapons may be formed against you, but they will not prosper. God’s protection is upon your life.
Have a sense of how protected you are in Christ. Even if God allows you to go through a trial sent by the devil, He will have severely limited and prohibited the devil from harming you.
Like the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Some of us have such great destinies in Christ that God has to train us first and build our resilience.
He sees that we can endure it, so we are allowed to be abased before being gloriously raised up, becoming a powerful testimony to inspire and encourage many.
Throughout the pain, the Holy Spirit is fine tuning the experience to be just enough to get the lesson across, without letting us suffer more than we can bear.
It is very interactive—God is right there with us, walking us through the valley of the shadow of death.
Those who have been through the valley know how to guide others through it as well, offering valuable firsthand wisdom.
The best parts that we all look forward to are the restoration blessings and the rewards.
When we combine faith and perseverance to overcome trials, we will never lose out.
Just ask Job who went through the worst trials any mortal could ever experience and came out with double restoration of what he had before.
Those who are marked for promotion often find themselves brought low first. It’s in the valleys that we develop the character and reliance on God to stay humble and faithful on the mountaintops!
It’s not attractive to the flesh to hear about going through fiery trials, but it will most likely happen if you ask God to promote you.
This message is not for believers who just want to go to Heaven and lead worldly lives while waiting for that day to come.
It’s for those who find no fulfillment in the transient things of the world, and who are ready to fully entrust their lives to Jesus.
These will fulfill the God-given calling on their lives, taste and see that the Lord is exceedingly good!
