“Early Works”, an exhibition of photographs by legendary artist Cindy Sherman, opens the new season at the Gucci Museo this week in Florence. Famous for her Untitled Film Stills series, Sherman is an intriguingly chameleon-like figure, always ready to deconstruct and distort her image in search of greater truths about the nature of identity and the self.
This month, GUCCI MUSEO BOOK CLUB gives you a closer look at this mysterious and engaging photographer. To learn more about the GUCCI MUSEO, its bookstore and its archive, email:[email protected].

Talk With Students...The Most Difficult Task
I was asked to speak with students and I immediately responded affirmatively.
I was later asked to provide a topic or theme for the talk. I took a few days to revert. I didnt revert except recently when the waiting time was over.
Speaking with any segment of the society has been easy for me even for the fraternity of professionals. Why is that speaking with students seems to be an uphill task?
I know certainly that students are very intelligent species. Not only they are intelligent, they are equally thoughtful and inquisitive. The level of intensity and courisity is always on the rising mode. The most pain point is that they have high expectations. They should as they have come to the University and locked themselves for 4 years just to prepare themselves for the future. They should be worried about their future.
I have hesistantly landed on a topic of making students realist and futurist. I regret that I have chosen this topic as I need to combine between the 'now' and 'future'. It would be easier if I were to talk about either.
Having said this and that, I look forward to giving my best shot to make our beloved sons and daughters realist and futurist individuals. Things are changing very rapidly and human capital is the most vulnerable sector to this rapid change, the way I see it.
What is next? Intriguingly speaking, before we convert the students to become men of the real and future, we need to convert the lecturers and teachers to become ones too. Otherwise, the mismatch (by the way there is a lot of mismatch in the country from residential properties to shopping malls to job opportunities and talent development to salaries and qualifications to understanding Shariah, racisim and nation building) will bring immense failure to the entire nation before we know it.
I am afraid that I cant convert the students into realist and futurist individuals. My worst nightmare is that they would become idealists and would be easily trapped in the legacy. Many are unfortunately as this is the easiest thing to do.
Leaving now to Dubai for one day hoping to get some insights in the blue sky on this theme.

[English below]
Pham Tuan Tu, born in 1981, is known as a phenomenal artist of the arts of shapes in Vietnam. Most of his works feature confusion, incredulity, dark palettes and vague multi-layered figures. It is challenging to determine the sex of his characters. In addition, their inner conflicts are intriguingly portrayed in their eyes, teasing smiles and sometimes blurring illustrations. The sacred or mourning atmosphere often appears in Pham Tuan Tu’s paintings. He reveals himself to be obsessed with the spiritual and mysterious world. His works are regarded as being out of the ordinary aesthetics, but retaining their genuine feelings, leaving a unique impression in Vietnamese fine arts.
