Women versus Nature 💚
In pre-hispanic time, women in Mexico were leaders who have influence on politics and religions. Jardin Etnobotanico De Oaxaca in Mexico was dedicated to them. According to a wall painting found in the ruins of Monte Alban, God shot an arrow at a sacred tree called Pochote (the big tree with spikes on the trunk) and it split the tree. The first earthly humans then rose from the tree, and the first person to lay her feet on Earth was a woman.
Besides, the plantations in Oaxaca city were so rich and diverse that the people obtained their nutritions solely from plants. Only at rare occasions would they consume domesticated turkeys.

Pochote gave us an insight to the ancient time not only through its mystical stories, but also their thorns which were in fact the tree's defense mechanism against large herbivores, which have now become extinct. 🦕

Plants at Jardin Etnobotanico De Oaxaca are watered by a rain-filled cistern. Thanks to the abundance of sunlight in Oaxaca, the solar panels installed here supply all the energy it needs. Its greenhouse was specially designed to harness geothermal cooling instead of the traditional air conditioning method, showing their commitment to sustainable practices.
