📝A Farewell Letter from AIT Director W. Brent Christensen
"As my time as AIT Director draws to a close and I prepare to leave Taiwan, I want to take this opportunity to tell you what this experience has meant to me. It is not an exaggeration to say that this has been the honor of my life and the fulfillment of a career-long aspiration.
The first time I left my hometown at age 19, it was to come to Taiwan. From that early age, Taiwan became synonymous for me with the ideas of exchange and understanding, exploration and adventure. Taiwan represented both disorienting foreignness and unexpected opportunity, as I tried new food – like shuijiaos and qiu doufu – and learned to navigate my way through streets crowded with bicycles and scooters. And struggled to make myself understood with my rudimentary Mandarin. But all the while discovering the kindness and generosity that welcomed me wherever I went.
It felt appropriate for me to serve my first tour as a U.S. diplomat in the place that first sparked in me a lifelong interest in Asia – and in Taiwan in particular – and in cross-cultural understanding and shared purpose, or in other words, diplomacy. After that, my career took me to other places, but mostly still in the China region. But the memories of my experiences in Taiwan stayed with me. And finally having the opportunity to serve as the top U.S. diplomat to Taiwan was the culmination of all the years that came before. It is clear that I have a lifelong connection to Taiwan, or “yuanfen,” that has led me to return again and again.
People often ask me why I have such a fondness for Taiwan. “Isn’t it obvious?!” I always think. But when forced to explain my affection for and professional fascination with Taiwan, I usually come back to a few themes.
First, dynamism and constancy; progress and preservation; innovation and tradition. Every time I return to Taiwan, I am immediately struck by the many ways Taiwan has advanced as a society. Taiwan’s democracy grows more mature, its economy more prosperous, its environment more cared-for, and its arts and culture more vibrant.
Taiwan’s industry continues to set the benchmark for global innovation in some of the most sophisticated technologies, but at the same time, Taiwan society is remarkable for its stability and cultural continuity. Taiwan’s people, despite their relative wealth and stature, continue to be modest and unassuming. Taiwan’s most ancient traditions are alive and well. Cultural and historic sites are restored and preserved. Young people may learn calligraphy techniques handed down for generations, but then share their work on Instagram.
Second, for the United States, Taiwan exemplifies the intersection of shared interests and shared values. Our partnership is about making sure our economies are beneficiaries rather than casualties of technological development and ensuring that technological development advances rather than undermines our principles. Our shared values of freedom, diversity, equality, and transparency inspire our efforts to build the resilience of democracies around the world. And we continue to find new ways to contribute to global problem solving, both because it benefits our own peoples and because we share the belief that this is what it means to be a good neighbor in the 21st century.
Finally, I associate Taiwan – and the broader U.S.-Taiwan relationship – with hope, promise, and growth. This friendship has expanded and flourished over the past 40 years; I believe every person who has done this job walked away knowing they left this partnership better than they found it. I will similarly leave AIT with a sense of accomplishment and success, knowing that the U.S.-Taiwan partnership is deeper and stronger than ever, and feeling immensely proud of my small role in getting us there.
But more than any of these things, I will remember the ways that Taiwan has touched me personally. I will always remember my first Christmas in Taiwan – and my first Chinese New Year. I will remember the warmth of Taiwan friendship, the faith of my fellow church members, the taste of a mango bing on a hot summer day, the echo of “Fur Elise” from the recycling truck, the fragrance of jasmine blossoms in village alleyways – these are just some of the memories I will treasure. I will remember the long dinners with dear friends, full of laughter and stories. And I will remember their many kindnesses. I will remember all the ways big and small that you, the people of Taiwan, touched my life and the lives of my family. And for that, I thank you.
I may be leaving Taiwan, but Taiwan will never leave me. "
-- AIT Director William Brent Christensen

Friends, do you love your children? If you love me, please read a bit and please share as much as possible.
It's very worrisome that the ancient sharks that happened on earth before dinosaurs were the top of the sea food chain for over 400 million years, about to extinct by human hands, merciless animals.
According to scientist research, it is expected that if sharks extinct, it will have severe impact on sea ecosystems and may have severe impact on the global environment. Beautiful seas like these days may no longer be for our children to see.
100 million sharks hunted a year. So much. They are caught. They will be cut off while they are alive and thrown back into the sea while they are still alive. They will sink to the bottom of the sea and die. Slow down
Humans were born on earth for about 1 million years. Human history started for about 1 ten thousand years. Shark Ear Soup. Newborn in July. Prof. 968 to serve the hong te in sung dynasty. Shark-hunting industry just started less than 100 years, but we are about to make the living beings on earth for a long time and the most important part of the sea. Extinct with our reckless appetite
One day in the future, our children have to question why people in our generation don't do something while they know that eating shark ear soup, whether it's just eating delicious, eating prestige, eating at weddings, eating chinese table, it's up to disaster for the world and those who have to live. In this world, it's all our own children.
We only have one house. If we want our children to stay here, it's time for us to change and dare to stand up. Don't care about society because it's all crazy. from now on, no matter the wedding. No matter whose birthday it is, Chinese table, Thai guest table. Who says it's strange. Who says that the world is beautiful, never mind!! You need to stop eating shark ears!!!Translated

╚═══════════╝
Switzerland is located in the Western European Continent.
It's a small country of only 41,285 square kilometers.
Which area size is 13 times smaller than Thailand.
And there is no way out to sea.
Switzerland has a population of just 8.6 million, less than the estimated number of people in Bangkok, around 10 million.
But in 2019, Switzerland had GDP reaching 24 trillion baht, the world's 20th largest.
And the average income per Swiss capita is 2.7 million baht per year.
Make here the world's 2th highest average income country
Why a small country without sea exit
Population is less than the number of people in Bangkok.
And not having as many natural resources as other countries.
To have this big economic size
The answer to this story is ′′ Innovation
Do you know that the budget for research and development of Switzerland's research and development in 2020 is worth 720,000 million baht, 3 % of GDP.
Which is considered a country with budget proportion to the world's top GDP.
By investing in this aspect, it's to develop and build new knowledge.
That will lead to innovation in future.
Which helps the country have inventions, works or services.
That can meet the needs of human beings who are changing along time.
In the past, Switzerland is one country that succeeded in developing and innovating that Switzerland can rank 1 in the field of innovation from World Economic Forum's rankings for 10 consecutive years.
And this story becomes one of the key factors.
That attracts multinational companies to do business in Switzerland.
For example,
Nestlé Global Food Product Leadership Company
Year 2019 earn 3.2 trillion baht, profit 431,000 million baht.
Currently, the company's value is around 10.7 trillion baht.
Novartis company manufacturing and distribution of world's major medicine and medicine.
Year 2019 earn 1.5 trillion baht, profit 368,000 million baht.
Currently, the company's value is around 6.4 trillion baht.
ABB, Electrical Systems Engineering and World's Big Automation Technology Company.
Year 2019 earn 879,000 million baht, profit 45,000 million baht.
Currently, the company's value is around 1.7 trillion baht.
In 2019, the chemical machining industry, electronic products, the industrial group that creates export income to Switzerland over 3.7 trillion baht or almost 40 % of the country's exports.
What we can notice from this number is
Switzerland's multi-income industry is using a lot of innovation.
It's reflecting that Switzerland budgets put into research and developments make good returns for the country.
Although in the past, Switzerland has a major obstacle, there is no space to go to the sea to make a trade through the navy.
But we can see that Switzerland shuts down this weakness by innovating to develop countries and successfully stepping up to become one of the top countries of the world.
This story is another great example to see that
The country's research and development budget is important.
And a huge priority at this point
It's fine to make Switzerland become a country that is called ′′ Innovative Country..

Source from wikipedia:
The sex industry in Japan uses a variety of names. Soaplands are bath houses where customers are soaped up and serviced by staff. Fashion health shops and pink salons are notionally massage or esthetic treatment parlors; image clubs are themed versions of the same. Call girls operate via delivery health services. Freelancers can get in contact with potential customers via deai sites (Internet dating sites), and the actual act of prostitution is legally called enjo kōsai or "compensated dating" to avoid legal trouble.
Kabukicho, an entertainment and red-light district in Shinjuku, Tokyo, measures only 0.34 km2, and has approximately 3,500 sex parlors, strip theaters, peep shows, "soaplands", 'lovers' banks, porno shops, sex telephone clubs, karaoke bars and clubs, etc.[citation needed]
Over 150,000 non-Japanese women are involved in prostitution in Japan.[citation needed] According to National Police Agency records, out of 50 non-Japanese people arrested for prostitution offences (売春防止法違反) in 2013, 31 (62%) were mainland Chinese, 13 (26%) were Koreans and 4 (8%) were Thai.[21]
Tokyo prostitution
In Tokyo, prostitution dates back several hundred years. In the early 17th century , the first attempts were made to regulate prostitution in the Yoshiwara district of Edo (present-day Tokyo). A law was passed that required prostitutes to register and work in secured facilities, its main purpose being for tax collection.
Because of Tokyo's position as a top five global business and trade city, prostitution continues to thrive in Tokyo.
