關於這個問題，我寫信問了 Larry Coon，以下是他回信的內容：
There's a specific rule in the CBA allowing the mid-level exception (and the
Early-Bird) to be used to match an offer sheet made per the Arenas provision.
參考 2005 CBA 本文，還確實有這麼一條 specific rule：

Article VII. Basketball Related Income, Salary Cap, Minimum Team Salary, and
Escrow Arrangement
Section 6. Exceptions to the Salary Cap
(e) Mid-Level Salary Exception
(3) Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in Section 6(e)(2) above, if a
Veteran Free Agent with one (1) or two (2) Years of Service receives an Offer
Sheet in accordance with the provisions of Article XI, Section 5(c)(ii), the
player’s Prior Team may use the Mid-Level Exception to match the Offer Sheet.
Article XI, Section 5(c)(ii) 部份就是所謂的 Gilbert Arenas provision。
意思是說，如果有薪資空間的球隊依照 Gilbert Arenas provision 開出了前兩年中產
級，第三年大幅躍升的 Offer Sheet（如 FAQ #38 舉的 $5M/5.4M/13.9M/14.9M/15.8M
這種合約），則母隊依據此條規則可用 MLE 來 match 此份 Offer Sheet，此時可無視
Section 6(e)(2) 對 MLE 之漲幅所作的限制。
Early-Bird（Early Qualifying Veteran Free Agent）也有類似的規定，當其他球隊開
出這種 Offer Sheet 時，球隊可 match 此份 Offer 而無視 Early-Bird 的一般限制。
（Article VII, Section 6(b)(3)(ii)）
不過依照先前的討論，林書豪不具有 Early-Bird 資格，所以尼克假如遇到這種情況，
則必定得動用 MLE 的這條規則來 match。
至於 2011 版 CBA 的 MLE 是定死的數字而非聯盟平均薪資這點，我猜相關規定也都據
此作了修正，因此應該沒有技術上的漏洞可鑽。不過 2011 CBA 還沒放上 NBPA 網站，
Coon's FAQ 也沒更新，所以也僅只於猜測而已。

是的，別隊可以對受限自由球員（RFA）開出這種 offer sheet，而母隊有一段時間（在
2005 年版 CBA 中為七天，2011 年版 CBA 改為三天）可以考慮是否要 match 此 offer
；如果決定跟進，那這份 offer sheet 就直接變成此名球員與母隊（i.e.尼克）的新合
約；如果時限內尼克沒有執行跟進權，那就變成此球員與開出此份 offer sheet 的球隊
之間的新合約。
另外，我後來重新看了一下這篇文章，發現有一個問題還沒有釐清：如果母隊已經使用
掉部分中產，僅餘部份，那麼是否還能套用此規則來 match 這類特殊 offer 呢？
不過這種情況太少見了，等真的出現再看看 Larry Coon 會不會解說吧。
