Today I learnt... that Mid-Autumn Festival (also Mooncake Festival) is NOT Lantern Festival (this festival is in Spring and clearly not in the middle of autumn) but somehow Moon Festival is associated with lanterns which is totes not confusing at all. Also learnt this festival has absolutely nothing to do with the Hungry Ghost Festival which ended on September 16. I also finally took the time to find out why the mooncakes (go read about the moon Goddess, Chang’E, it’s pretty neat) and what lanterns have to do with mid-autumn festival (symbolizes fertility but mostly because it’s probably pretty hard to see in the dark— even with the full moon)...

In conclusion, I suck at my Chinese cultural history.

🇵🇭 本月10/23-10/27 我與NAXS corp. 前往菲律賓 馬尼拉，受邀參與當地藝術節 WSK Festival of The Recently Possible，並於23，24兩日用工作坊Workshop的方式，與當地人一同尋找馬尼拉古蹟、有特殊意義的建築、街道、物件，用手機、相機等最簡單的方式來製作3D掃描馬尼拉的城市記憶，我們會集結大家一起製作出來的3D模型及隨機採樣的聲音，放入即將演出的影像中，與馬尼拉城市共同建造身歷其境的虛擬實境回憶。27日的演出將在五百年以上的歷史古蹟Rajah Sulayman Theater完整音像live呈現。 MV參考：https://youtu.be/Nfo5MYkNK8A

[Workshop Info] This October 23-27, navigate the cityscape and create a live visual scene with the audio-visual duo @meuko_meuko and @naxscorp by capturing the ghost of vague emotions, the wireless-electric-memories on the streets of Manila, and the appearances of those still roaming in history.

Meuko! Meuko! and NAXS corp. will share their knowledge in GHOST OF THE ROAMING ISLANDS, a 3D scanning and psychogeography event. Participants will be introduced to various concepts and tools before engaging in “city-scanning” Manila. Reinvestigating the cityscape together by roaming around the streets of Manila equipped with smartphones, DSLR cameras or any digital camera, everyone is invited to gather not faithful replicas of reality but ghost images of captured memories.

The workshop will be held at the Bank of Singapore Co-Lab, 3F George SK Ty Learning Innovation Wing, @areteateneo, Ateneo de Manila University

The 3D scanned materials will be combined to the A/V set in order to create the fellow’s own work, be it music videos, live A/V set, or VR installations with a game engine. Works from the Ghost of the Roaming Islands workshop will be presented in a special performance on October 27th at the Rajah Sulayman Theater, @intramurosph.

QiXi, the night of the 7th of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, is a traditional Chinese holiday and has thousands of years of history.

Within this ancient tradition there is a beautiful love mythology: a NiuLang boy and a ZhiNiu girl.
