Earlier this year I wrote about how at the age of 28, I view love, relationship & marriage differently.

That writing was a result of heartbreaks (multiple, yes), lying & being lied to, backstabs, disappointments, and self-reflects.
.
A few months later, my view has transposed a bit. Albeit, similar values, but I am now in a happier state. Alhamdullilahhh. Hence, this new piece of writing.

So.. What’s your favourite Disney Princess? Often, we are asked this question. My answer has always been the same; Belle.
.
She depicts intelligence, charm, class, elegance & most importantly, she has her own stand on how she views things, which I find lacking especially in the classic Disney Princesses.

“Peculiar.”
That’s what the ‘provincial town’ villagers think of her. But she did not fake herself just to fit in. She embraced her differences & stayed true to herself. A quality I think I need the most esp in this current social media ruckus. Cuz y’know, some people can easily lose themselves just to get otherpeople’s validation 🤷🏻♀️

Also, remember how every Disney princesses needed saving? And that their ONLY purpose in life is fulfilled once they’ve found their true love? This very particular ‘message’ bothers me the most. We are teaching our girls (and boys) that love ALONE is enough. Everyone talks about reciprocal love. But did anyone talk about reciprocal responsibility? Love is not just a feeling. It’s a life-long commitment.

Funny how we can easily be deceived by someone’s outer-look. Whereas love blooms from honesty that goes beyond looks & fame. Love can’t be forced nor faked, it is to be developed.

She did not fall for the superficial qualities, stereotypical men of wealth & stature but saw something far greater than that which is, the heart. And this sparked a sincere feeling in the Beast to also love, unconditionally. Is this not the essence of true love?

Belle aspires me to become a better woman. To take matters into my own hands. To be kind regardless, as beauty is only skin deep. Most importantly, Belle teaches me to always upgrade my self not just on how I look, but also on how I THINK. And that’s why, Belle is one helluva princess. -UA💛 @ Belle
