The world is faced with the worst displacement crisis since WW2, yet several European countries are closing its borders. On 14 September, a course of action for dealing with the current refugee situation in Europe will be discussed at a meeting of the European Union’s Justice and Home Affairs Council in Brussels. Around this meeting, MSF is organizing a series of actions and events, asking EU leaders to put an end to policies that are turning a foreseeable and manageable influx of people fleeing for survival into a policy-made human tragedy on Europe’s beaches, borders, train platforms and motorways.
On Friday 11 September, MSF is issuing a letter (Read the complete letter - http://msf-seasia.org/news/16575) to European Heads of State, urging the Heads of all EU member states to provide safe and legal passage for refugees to reach Europe. The letter will be sent to each EU member state’s permanent representation in Brussels together with a lifejacket – a symbol of the perilous journey that many people have to take to reach Europe.
Imagine if you were one of the refugees fleeing via the sea route, and may lose your life during the journey. You can only leave your messages on your life jacket. What would you write?
