在 1971 年 11 月 15 日， Intel 由 Federico Faggin 、 Stanm Mazor 與 Marcian
E. ( Tedd ) Hoff 三位工程師共同開發的 Intel 4004 正式問世，這也是全球第一款具
備可程式化能力的微處理器，直至今日，這款晶片也走過半個世紀。

Intel 4004 的誕生是肇因於日本計算機公司( Nippon Calculating Machine Corp. )的
需求，當時日本計算機公司希望 Intel 為其 Busicom 141-PF 列印計算機的原型開發
12 個客製化晶片，當時 Intel 工程團隊則建議將規模縮減至 4 個晶片，其中包括今日
歡度 50 歲生日的 Intel 4004 ，這也是全球首款能夠因應不同應用重新撰寫功能的可程
式化微處理器。

歷經 50 年的歲月， Intel 甫在 10 月發表最新的代號 Alder Lake 的第 12 代 Core
平台，電晶體數量自 2,300 個擴增到十億級，並自 4 位元十進位二元編碼演進至 64 萬
元，時脈也從僅有 750kHz 達到 5.2GHz 等級，同時 Alder Lake 還有全新的混合架構；
另外 Intel 亦已投入量子運算與神經型態運算等領域，而這一切的原點，也要歸功於
Intel 4004 的誕生。
