มีคำถามมาจากผู้รักสัตว์เลี้ยงว่า ถ้านอนกับหมาที่บ้านทุกวัน หายใจเอาขนมันเข้าไป มันจะไปทำให้เป็นมะเร็งปอดอย่างที่แชร์กันในกลุ่ม จริงหรือเปล่า ... คำตอบคือ เคยโพสต์แล้วว่าไม่จริงครับ ขนมันใหญ่เกินกว่าจะไปถึงถุงลมปอดได้ แต่ๆๆๆ มันก็มีสิทธิที่จะนำโรคอื่นๆ มาให้ได้ด้วยเหมือนกันนะ
ย้อนกลับไปหลายปีก่อน เคยมีแชร์กันว่า มีเด็กเสียชีวิตเพราะติดปอดติดเชื้อ และแพทย์วินิจฉัยว่ามีขนสัตว์ติดอยู่ในช่องปอด เลยทำให้ปอดอักเสบ ซึ่งตรงกับการที่เด็กคนนั้นเลี้ยงหมาเป็น 10 ตัวมาเป็น 10 ปี ... ทำเอาคนเลี้ยงหมาแมวแตกตื่นกันใหญ่ และก็ลือกันไปจนถึงขนาดกลายเป็น "มะเร็งปอด" เลยทีเดียว
แต่ความจริงแล้ว มันแทบจะเป็นไปไม่ได้เลยที่ขนหมาแมวจะเข้าไปถึงในปอดของคนเราได้ ถึงจะหายใจเข้าไปก็ตาม เพราะช่องทางเดินหายใจของเรา จะเล็กลงเรื่อยๆ ลงไปจนถึงถุงลมปอดซึ่งจะม่ีขนาดเล็กมากๆ วัตถุที่จะไปถึงปอดได้ต้องมีขนาดเล็กมากแค่ 3-5 ไมโครเมตร (ไมครอน) ลงไปเท่านั้น หรือก็คือต้องเป็นแค่ฝุ่นผงในอากาศที่ตามองไม่เห็นเลย ไม่ใช่อย่างขนหมาแมว ที่ทั้งใหญ่ และเป็นเส้นยาวๆ
นอกจากนี้ระบบทางเดินหายใจ ยังมีกลไกในการจับและขับสิ่งแปลกปลอมออกไปอยู่แล้ว เช่น เกิดการระคายเคืองแล้วจามหรือไอออกมา มีเมือกหรือเสมหะที่จับเอาไว้ รวมทั้งการที่มี cilia (ซีเลีย) เล็กๆ พัดโบกให้ออกมา ดังนั้น ไม่มีทางเลยที่ขนแมวขนหมาจะเข้าไปสะสมในปอด จนอักเสบ หรือเป็นมะเร็งปอด อย่างที่ลือกัน ... อย่างมาก ก็เป็นอาการแพ้ของสัตว์ ที่บางคนเป็นได้ มากกว่า
แต่ๆๆ อย่างพึ่งประมาทไป การคลุกคลีกับสัตว์เลี้ยงนั้น ก็ต้องระมัดระวังในการติดเชื้อต่างๆ จากมันด้วย ถ้าสัตว์เลี้ยงของเรานั้นสุขภาพไม่ดี ก็มีสิทธิที่เราจะได้รับทั้งเชื้อแบคทีเรียหรือปรสิตต่างๆ จากมันได้ ... ยิ่งเราไปนอนกับมันทั้งคืนด้วยแล้ว โอกาสติดเชื้อก็มีย่อมมีมากขึ้น
กรณีของเชื้อแบคทีเรีย ก็จะมีได้ทั้งเชื้อซัลโมเนลล่า เชื้อแคมพีโลแบ็คเตอร์ และเชื้อสแตรฟฟีโลคอคคัส ซึ่งไม่ค่อยจะทำให้สัตว์เลี้ยงของเราป่วย แต่ถ้าเรารับเข้าไป ก็ทำให้เราไม่สบายได้ .. ทางหลีกเลี่ยงคือ ระวังอย่าให้สัตว์เลี้ยงกินเนื้อสัตว์ดิบๆ เช่น ไก่ดิบๆ ซึ่งนำเชื้อมาได้ / หลีกเลี่ยงการสัมผัสโดนอึของสัตว์เลี้ยง เพราะเชื้อมักจะออกมาทางนั้น / อย่าให้หมาแมวมาเลียดวงตา จมูก ปากของเรา หรือแม้แต่แผลตามร่างกาย
ส่วนพวกปรสิตนั้น ก็จะมี Toxoplasma gondii ซึ่งทำให้เกิดโรคติดเชื้อทอกโซพลาสโมซิสได้ คนที่ติดเชื้อปรสิตนี้จะอันตรายมากถ้าเป็นคนที่มีปัญหาเรื่องภูมิคุ้มกัน และสตรีที่ตั้งครรภ์ ซึ่งมีผลกระทบต่อเด็กในครรภ์อย่างรุนแรงได้ นอกจากนี้ก็จะเป็นปรสิตพวกหนอนตัวกลม หนอนตัวแบน ต่างๆ ด้วย ... ทางหลีกเลี่ยงก็คล้ายกัน คือ อย่าสัมผัสโดนอึของสัตว์เลี้ยง ทั้งที่กระบะทรายของมัน หรือตามพื้นตามสวนที่มันชอบไปอึไว้
คำแนะนำที่ดีที่สุดในการมีสัตว์เลี้ยง คือ รักษาสุขอนามัยของทั้งตัวคุณและน้องหมาน้องแมวไว้ให้ดี ก็หลีกเลี่ยงโรคภัยต่างๆ ได้เยอะแล้วครับ
