羅賓．威廉斯（Robin Williams）的父親跟他完全不是一類人，是一個嚴肅、不苟言笑的上班族。有天小羅賓發現父親坐在電視機前面盯著喜劇演員喬納森．溫特斯（Jonathan Winters）的秀，笑得合不攏嘴。

他心想，這個人是誰？竟然逗得自己正經的父親如此捧腹大笑？

羅賓．威廉斯追求喜劇表演的動機就此深根，他不僅希望能夠讓父親發笑，也希望能讓所有疲憊的、拘謹的觀眾們卸下心房。

當羅賓．威廉斯後來成為世界一等一的喜劇演員時，即便他依然是派對裡的焦點，像是永動機一般不斷噴射笑料給旁人。但這種超乎常人的表演慾，卻也經常讓人感到不安，因為他的表演看來似乎不像是真的有感而發，而是一種深深的焦慮感，他深怕自己沒有朋友、失去觀眾、無法引來笑聲。

2014年8月11日，羅賓．威廉斯在家中自縊身亡。而且死意甚堅，發現割腕無法結束生命，便取來了繩子。在第一時間，各家媒體都以羅賓．威廉斯深受憂鬱症所苦作出結論。但後來驗屍報告公布，才知這位喜劇泰斗生前深受「路易氏體失智症」所苦。

路易氏體失智症是僅次於阿茲海默症、第二常見的退化性失智症，會導致患者產生認知功能障礙、情緒不穩、焦慮與自我懷疑，在睡夢中，他們的肌肉不會完全放鬆，會具體地將夢境演出來，對枕邊人拳打腳踢。但由於比較明顯的症狀包括動作遲緩、走路不穩、手抖或肢體僵硬等，與帕金森氏症相似，因此羅賓．威廉斯生前誤以為自己罹患了帕金森氏症。

直到死前，他都不知道真正困擾自己的原因為何。
．
任何熟知羅賓．威廉斯的人，都知道他不可能會想要讓自己的觀眾失望，看似即興的表演，其實背後的準備工夫，遠超過外人想像。但世人對他的了解，除了透過他的表演與節目訪談之外，也沒有別的了，我們所看見的，終究是他最想讓我們看見的樣子。

在紀錄片《羅賓威廉斯：我心深處 Robin Williams: Come Inside My Mind》（2018），觀者難得有機會看見一部將其生涯脈絡完整呈現的影像作品。除了他對家人的追憶，還有他早期即興表演、劇場演出的精彩花絮，一路到他以影集《Mork and Mindy》（1978）躍升為家喻戶曉的喜劇之星，再到他以主演《大力水手 Popeye》（1980）惹人嫌棄，以及他生涯最重要的轉變──好友因吸毒過量致死。

羅賓．威廉斯已經走了七年了，我常常想，如果他還在，會不會登台戲仿川普（Donald Trump）？在近年續集電影的潮流之下，他會不會願意拍攝續集《大力水手2》來一雪前恥（沒想到在本片中竟然還提到了）？又會不會在《野蠻遊戲：瘋狂叢林 Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle》（2017）再顯身手？又或者他還會出演哪些精采之作，讓新一代的觀眾也能認識他的名字？

在五年前的現在，我與好友詠雙在新竹市兒童影展擔任影片策劃，堅持要做的單元，就是「喜劇泰斗：羅賓．威廉斯」。我有點私心，因為我說羅賓．威廉斯是陪伴我長大的一個人，我想讓孩子們也能認識他。雖然版權洽談經常碰壁，但我們最後還是邀請到了《虎克船長 Hook》（1991）、《阿拉丁 Aladdin》（1992）、《野蠻遊戲 Jumanji》（1995）、《家有傑克 Jack》（1996）、《飛天法寶 Flubber》（1997）等作。

永遠難忘，放了幾天之後，有個小朋友觀眾笑著對我說：「羅賓．威廉斯演的電影都好好看！」
