The Lost of the Father of Islamic Finance Shariah Scholars

I have heard about his death this morning. I didnt want to believe it. I have checked with many other colleagues overseas. I am sad the news is true.

I felt very sad. Very sad. No one has ever left the Shariah finger print on my Shariah personality as much as he did.

I met with him for the first time in Labuan circa 1995. He needed my help to translate his paper into English. I went to his room and I was so nervous. I was 31 years old then and he was one of the great scholars of Islamic finance on this planet. I spent two hours with him. We spent 30 minutes on the paper and the rest we talked about life. He embraced me in his world of Islamic finance. I felt strongly that I must follow his footsteps.

Not long after that, I was invited to join many Shariah Boards together with him such as Dow Jones Islamic Market Index, Noor Bank, BNP Paribas (Bahrain), AAOIFI, Dubai Bank, Unicorn Bank (Bahrain), Guidancd Financial (USA), etc. It was always fulfillig and insightful to learn from his great knowledge and wisdom.

I also learnt from him in great deal the real meaning of simplicity and humility. He is known for this character. I dont know how to describe this character in words.

On one occasion, I was chairing one meeting and he was one of the members. I have pronounced one word in Arabic wrongly. He was sitting next to me. He brought down his face to my shoulder and made that important correction quietly and subtly without anyone else noticing. He was so examplary. I always told this story to many upbecoming scholars in Islamic finance: be humble in all conditions.

He has passed away. He brought with him tons of knowledge to the graveyard. He is a true scholar in knowledge and attitude.

May I ask everyone of you - wherever you are - to pray for his soul. When he was living amongst us, he is so resourcefull and soul-full.

He is my teacher & my mentor. He is also my friend & inspiring board members in many Shariah Boards of the world. He lives at the airports more than his residence.

May Allah the Almighty bless his soul & grant sabr to his family.

福與禍有如兄弟姐妹，是相依及甚少離棄的。因此，當妳你還在運的時候，或是得意外之財時，千萬别想着如何的慶祝，應快快在妳你盛運時，积極的力行佈施。

一，循環因果。
二，再施肥於財苗。
三，使財富綿綿無絕期。

吾，玳瑚師父，早明此道理，面對所有的男女有情，的讚於彈，都能大方地處之泰然。不久前就有位女士，眞情流露的相告，說吾給於她的第一印象是，公子哥兒。吾聽了自然的笑了出來，並對她說這是很新鮮的看法，且先知會她，吾日後可能會，将其對於吾這新鮮的看法，寫成短文。但這短文肯定是含有，善知识及正確的價值觀的。

這位欲請吾爲她，及其家人造福的女士，相信是沒有惡意的。再說，她的中文也沒她的英文來得流利。公子哥兒與花花公子，其实是不盡相同的。花花公子不一定是有錢的。公子哥兒也不一定，全是花花公子啊!說实在的，這两者若能若肯，出來渡眾生，是非常難能可貴的。

可貴在於他有這菩提心。當然，他若能先修斷，他那花花的心，他所欲擺渡的對相，才能信服並坐上他的法船，共达彼岸，共赴蓮邦，永享極樂。

Good fortune and Disaster are like siblings. They are dependent on each other and rarely abandon each other. Hence when you are in good luck or receive an unexpected windfall, never think about how to celebrate. During this time of prosperous luck, you should hurriedly and diligently contribute and give.

1. This keeps the good luck in constant circulation.
2. This further fertilises the wealth seedlings.
3. This brings in a never-ending flow of wealth.

I, Master Dai Hu, have long understood this principle. When faced with the praises and criticisms, I can remain big-hearted and take things calmly.

Not long ago, a lady revealed her true sentiments to me, saying that the first impression I gave her was that of 公子哥兒 (a rich playboy). Upon hearing it, I naturally laughed and told her that this was a novel perspective. I also informed her that in the future, I would write about this novel viewpoint in a short write-up, but the write-up would definitely contain virtuous knowledge and right values.

This lady who wanted to invite me to create good fortune for her and her family probably mean no harm. Moreover, her Mandarin was not as fluent as her English. The terms 公子哥兒 and 花花公子 are similar in meaning. The latter may not be wealthy and the former may not be totally unfaithful! Frankly speaking, if these two characters are willing to come out and deliver sentient beings, that would be so valuable.

Because it is valuable that he has this bodhi of resolve. It goes without saying that he should snip off that flirtatious heart, the person he aims to deliver salvation shall then be convinced to board his Dharma ship towards the shores of Salvation and eternal bliss.

你自己，比全世界的其他人，更值得你的關愛和喜歡。

準備好「靈魂誓言」
這些誓言是你內心對愛情、珍愛、和深藏在你內心的所有一切的最誠摯的承諾，無論生命健康與否，會跟隨你直到你在這個世界最後一天。

在外面尋找真愛不能讓你有完全的滿足感，
除非你對自己有徹底的不可動搖的愛。

有了這些共識，我們可以做出以下的靈魂誓言：

我發誓，在絕望、沮喪、幻滅或任何困難出現的時候，我會安慰自己。

我發誓，我會一直，並以一切方式，做自己最心愛的人。

我發誓，我不會把自己再次扔進並沉湎與浪漫愛情之中。

我發誓，要活在我的信仰之中，讓生命展現神秘神聖完美的一面。

我發誓，以我的精神道路為榮，並創造出讓人驚訝的人生，不管我是否合法結婚。

我發誓，以聽到的號召為榮，讓自己的人生活得像藝術品一樣精彩。

誓言有些是溫和的，有些是激烈的，有些私人的，有些可以與全世界分享。

所有的誓言都體現我靈魂的召喚，以及要愛護自己的強烈渴望，以盡可能深的程度在生活的各方面關愛自己。

這些誓言都是進入生命的一個途徑，它們更深入更豐富，與靈魂有更密切聯繫。

用以下這四種方式，對自己說「我願意」：

1. 寫下你的靈魂誓言

你對自己的生活有最珍視的視角，所以你的靈魂誓言是你用文字把心裡的話記載出來的。
你也可以做一個視頻，寫一首詩，或者寫篇小說。
然後為自己舉行一個宴會，登記收到的禮物，有何不可?!

2. 創造一個願景版

靈魂會以形像說話。
你的靈魂誓言將以最大程度展現你生活的視角。
留出一些時間，製造一個和你形像有共鳴的願景版。
允許你自己直觀地繪製出這些形象，不要依賴你的理智。

3. 神聖的珠寶

取一件對你來說是有心意及意義的珠寶。
如一件銀項鍊，上面雕刻著「你讓世界更美好」

曾有一位女士在「嫁給」自己後，送了自己一個神聖的珠寶。
然後在經歷多年的曲折之後，她終於找到了屬於自己的道路。

4. 見證自己的神聖誓言

在做靈魂誓言時，不妨舉行一個小型典禮，讓其他人也承認你的這種轉變。

「嫁給」自己是一個可愛的起點，但它也僅僅是一個開始。

With that knowing, these are some of Soul Vows:

I vow to comfort myself during times of hopelessness, despair, depression, disillusionment, or any difficulty that arises.

I vow to live in the faith my life unfolds in mysterious divine perfection.

I vow to honor my spiritual path and create an amazing life whether I am ever legally married or not.

Some vows were tender and some fierce—some private, and some to be shared with the world.

All vows were an expression of my soul’s calling and a deep desire to love myself and care for myself at the deepest possible level in all areas of my life.

These vows were the gateway into a life that was deeper, richer, and more connected to my soul’s guidance.

Here are 4 ways to say “I do” to you…

1. Write your soul vows.

You have a deeply cherished vision for your life, and your soul vows are a way to get it out of your soul and on paper. You could create a video, write a poem, or use fancy writing. Throw yourself a party. Register for gifts! Why not?

2. Create a vision board.

The soul speaks in images. Your soul vows may be magnificently revealed in a vision for your life. Carve out some time to craft a vision board from images that resonate with you. Allow yourself to be intuitively drawn to these images and don’t rely on your rational mind.

3. Sacred jewelry.

Procure a piece of jewelry that has heart and meaning for you, such as a silver heart necklace inscribed: “You make the world a better place.”

A lady actually created a sacred jewelry business after marrying herself. She’s finally found her path after years of meandering.

4. Be witnessed in your sacred vows.

While making a soul vows, perhaps a ceremony with a few close friends? Find a way to have others acknowledge this transformation.

And while the marrying myself was a lovely starting place, it was really just the beginning. In the wise words “Your task is not to seek love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
