Snapped this from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today. I was there meeting the Committee of Permanent Secretaries (COPS), which I do twice a year. I share with them my preoccupations and views. We have a free flowing discussion for an hour, followed by lunch.
Today we talked about priorities for the new term of government, which the President will set out in his Address at the opening of Parliament next week.
The construction site beyond the building is the future Napier MRT station, located right in front of the Botanic Gardens Tanglin Gate. It is part of the Thomson-East Coast Line, which will run from Woodlands to Marina Gardens by the Bay, and all the way along the east coast to Bedok. Looking forward to the line opening (in stages) from 2019. :) – LHL

或餘額少於一百元時的嗶噗噗;
自怠速狀態重啟的手扶梯
播放提醒旅客站穩的語音;
.
車門緊閉的一聲妥當;
啟動前車體似起錨般的告別;
隧道中風聲陣陣的呼嘯;

Walking on your daily route
Doing all your routines on weekdays and weekends
Do you still remember the fun details of your life?
.
I have been in and out Taipei MRT for a thousand times or more
Swiping my travel card seems like an innate reflex
Instinctively go towards the most time efficient door
It feels as natural as walking. One foot up and one foot down.
.
If possible,
You can listen to the sound of the MRT carefully
The chime every time a travel card is swiped
Or the subtle different chime when the remaining value is less than $100
The self-activated passenger address delivering warm reminders to users when the escalator goes from energy saving mode to normal.
The unique melody of every line when the train goes into the station
.
You may not hear all these if you are focused on your phone/a conversation/your thoughts
But if you pay attention, these sounds are always there
If you focus on them, you can hear even subtler but intriguing sounds
.
The sound of air flow squeezed by the doors closed properly
The goodbye-like engine starting sound
The wind running in the tunnel
Or even the relaxation of braking when being close to arrival
If you close your eyes and empty your mind, you may know these little adorable elves I’m describing
.
By the way,
Are you also familiar with Taipei MRT?
Can you recall the colour of the train floor? The ceiling? The ventilation outlet?
.
If it’s my first time to travel to a certain country,
I will notice lots of details and be curious of the designs that are different to that of Taipei’s
If I were still a child, I would pay attention to every single detail, including sound, colour, shape, touch, emotion, care
.
The world and our lives are always full of intriguing details.
It’s up to us to see them or to close our minds

If you thought your day was bad wait till you hear about mine.... Headed to Singapore this morning at 8am without buying a coach ticket online because the system was down and we were told by them lthat we can easily get seats on the day!
Turns out there were no seats left...so we booked the next available bus online on the way to TBS Station! Rushed like a bunch of gilas and luckily made it!😅 Things were looking good...until an hour into our journey...guess what happened? Yeap...Bus Broke down 😂!
Waited an hour until the driver realised that somebody would have to come and fix the bus and if it couldn't get fixed they would have to send another bus to us which would take even more time... So I decided to order an Uber from Seremban because it was 200RM to the border of JB / Singapore! I was doing some good salesman skills to convince two other unhappy passengers to join us and pay 50RM each to get to the border and ditch our bus!
Into the Uber we got with our two new buddies and we reached the JB MRT station in under three hours! Things were looking good....😅....until we found out that all the trains were booked out and the next available one was in the morning... So then we had to take a coach to Larkin Central where we had to wait another 30mins for a bus to reach the Malaysian Exit Immagration! Just my luck also that this Immagration line was probably the longest that I have ever seen in my entire life.
We passed Malaysian customs and had to wait for another bus to take us to the Singapore Immagration and this took another hour. Oh I forgot to mention that at this point it is already 5:45PM -PEAK TRAFFIC HOURS!!! So a 10 minute journey to the Singapore Immagration took us another hour....😂😂😂...
And guess what!!! The line at the Singapore Immagration is even longer than the Malaysian one! And to make matters worse... we picked the wrong line to stand in as some guy in front of us doesn't have a valid Visa to enter Singapore!
So here I am posting this picture at 7:30PM at Singapore Immagration , after being travelling for almost 11 hours , telling you all that if you had a bad day today....at least your not me🙈🙈

In this video, we headed down to Lim's Fried Oysters to eat a massive plate of Oyster Omelette. Lim's Fried Oysters is located at Berseh Food Centre, near Jalan Besar MRT station. Oyster omelette, also known as orh luak in Chinese dialect, is a traditionally Chinese dish brought over to Singapore by immigrants. It is a savoury dish with oysters tossed in eggs in the style of an omelette, with sweet potato starch added to make it thicker and crispier. It is usually accompanied with a chilli sauce on the side. Lim's Oysters is a family-run business that was passed down from father to son, who is the current chef, with over 50 years of operation.
For my serving, I ordered 20 plates worth (SGD$100), which were plated onto my giant plate. Garnished with coriander, it was speckled with thick, juicy oysters and looked tantalisingly good. The omelette was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, with a plump oyster present every other bite. Fried in lard, it was sinfully delicious with a visible pool of oil on my plate. The addition of the sour and slightly spicy chilli sauce, together with the fresh coriander, complemented the "heaviness" of the dish well. As always, with such a heavy, decadent dish, it became rather overwhelming towards the end. As a single serving, it would be a perfect and affordable treat for yourself during this Covid-19 period.
Do support local businesses and have a plate of Lim's Oyster Omelette!

We went down to Mrs Pho to demolish a MASSIVE 6KG (13LB) PHO CHALLENGE! Mrs Pho, located at 313@somerset, serves authentic Vietnamese cuisine and specialises in its namesake, pho. The chef, a feisty Vietnam native, offered us a mega version of her special menu item, Premium Short Ribs Pho. Only offered at Mrs Pho’s Somerset outlet and created by the chef herself, the bowl comes with your usual pho toppings of beef balls and sliced beef but with the addition of a hefty piece of short rib that was sous vide-ed for 36 hours.
With over 5 portions of noodles, 3-4 servings of meat and a bucketful of broth, the bowl came up to a whopping 6KG. I began with the star of the pho, the short rib, and it really was the best part. Succulently tender and meaty together with a hit of umami from being submerged in the pho broth. Adding on the available chilli sauce helped to bring out a different dimension to the short rib.
The broth itself was not as strong as I had expected, actually being mild yet not bland. It served as a good base for you to craft the bowl to your own liking and to bring out the flavours of the toppings. You can add chilli for more spiciness, fish sauce for greater saltiness and Vietnamese-style brown sauce (tasted sort of like marmite) for an umami kick.
I especially enjoyed the noodles, which had bite to them and soaked up the broth beautifully. The beef balls were excellent as well, firm and bouncy. They also serve a special in-house chilli sauce that was devilishly spicy. I could not handle it but I am sure most of you would enjoy it immensely.
This was a pleasurable challenge that I completed in under 30 minutes, which is decent for a massive 6KG bowl of pho. Mrs Pho’s Somerset outlet is newly opened and located right at the entrance to the MRT station in the building. Massive queues are common on weekends (a testament to their excellent food) so be sure to plan adequately for your visit to Mrs Pho!
