“But he answered them, “You give them something to eat.” They asked him, “Shall we go and buy two hundred denarii worth of bread, and give them something to eat?” He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go see.” When they knew, they said, “Five, and two fish.”” (Mark 6:37-38 WEB)
When the Holy Spirit prompts you to do something, the fleshly reaction would be to look at yourself to judge if you can do what is asked of you.
When you depend only on your self, your “two hundred denarii” can only give the multitudes a little—not enough to meet the demands. We are too limited and puny on our own to make any real impact.
However Jesus’ miracle of multiplying the loaves and fishes teaches us that we don’t have to look at the meagre five loaves and two fishes in our hands to judge if we can feed the five thousand.
We just have to be like Jesus who was conscious of where the supply is going to come from—God, and thank Him for giving us the opportunity to serve.
Jesus blessed the food in His hands. Don’t curse what little you have and risk it becoming even less.
Bless it according to God’s promises and thank God for that little that you have. Then, watch it multiply abundantly by His power.
When God’s power touches that little, it will never grow to become just nice—it will generously become more than enough—your inability is a perfect opportunity for God to showcase His ability.

“But, lest we cause them to stumble, go to the sea, cast a hook, and take up the first fish that comes up. When you have opened its mouth, you will find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for me and you.”” (Matthew 17:27 WEB)
When Jesus was on earth, He didn’t live in a palace, He didn’t own lots of land and He wasn’t considered a rich man.
He wasn’t poor or destitute either. He earned a living as a carpenter and owned His own house in Capernaum.
Whenever there was a need, He never lacked.
When there was no food in the deserted countryside, He multiplied loaves of bread and fishes.
To pay the temple tax, He received a supernatural word of wisdom from His Father that He would send a fish with a coin in its mouth to provide the payment.
This is Biblical prosperity that every believer can experience—to have no lack and always be supplied for every need.
Not every Christian will be a multi-millionaire—there is a special calling for rich believers and that is to be generous givers towards the work of the Gospel.
Notice that God the Father didn’t create a silver coin for Jesus out of thin air.
God provides for our needs through legitimate channels—He gives us the power to obtain wealth by giving us creative ideas and knowledge that will result in income if we act on them as led by the Holy Spirit.
God knows where all the ‘fishes with silver coins in their mouths’ are. He can direct them to swim towards you and tell you when to reel them in.
This is the special advantage we have as children of God—we have insider info from the all-knowing, all-powerful God.

When Jesus Says “No” to Death
“Soon afterwards, he went to a city called Nain. Many of his disciples, along with a great multitude, went with him. Now when he came near to the gate of the city, behold, one who was dead was carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. Many people of the city were with her. When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, “Don’t cry.” He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!” He who was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear took hold of all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited his people!” This report went out concerning him in the whole of Judea, and in all the surrounding region.” (Luke 7:11-17 WEB)
Imagine the scene like a movie in your mind: Jesus leading a great multitude walking towards Nain’s city gate, whereas another procession led by a casket containing a dead boy was coming out of the city gate.
It is a picture of the clash between life and death—God and evil.
If you view the whole incident from the eyes of the mourning widow, perhaps you can apply this miracle to yourself.
Sometimes in life we experience the apparent death of something dear to us—whether it be a loved one, a career, health, a relationship, a ministry, etc.
Perhaps it was the one thing we placed all our hopes and dreams in. As a widow, the woman possibly put all her hopes of a good future into her son—and that was crushed when he died.
Just when the devil thinks he dealt you a fatal blow that crushed your faith, Jesus comes marching purposefully towards the gates of your situation, with a heart of compassion, set on resurrecting what had died.
Maybe you’ve already given up hope and accepted your ‘fate’ that you’re going to suffer for the rest of your life—that’s a demonic lie.
It probably seemed so for the widow as she was watching the people preparing her son’s corpse for burial, hearing the people around us sending their condolences and when she walked beside the coffin to the city gate.
There is usually a gap of time between the apparent death of an area of your life and its eventual resurrection. This gap can mean despair for you, or it can be cushioned by a faith that hopes in God’s resurrection power.
“By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son, to whom it was said, “your offspring will be accounted as from Isaac”; concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.” (Hebrews 11:17-19 WEB)
Just as the evil powers that profit from death and destruction in your life are excitedly carrying the coffin out, Jesus puts His hand on the coffin and they have no choice but to stop at the command of the One who holds the power of life and death.
“...He laid his right hand on me, saying, “Don’t be afraid. I am the first and the last, and the Living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forever more. Amen. I have the keys of Death and of Hades.” (Revelation 1:17-18)
Jesus has received all authority in Heaven and on earth—He has the final say in your situation.
No devil nor human can defeat you. Even if they kill something important to you, God can raise it back to life.
When Jesus clashes with the enemy that is trying to wreck havoc in your life, He will surely win—death has to give way to life.
Through the cross, God’s promise to you is life and life more abundantly!
Is there anything important in your life that just died? Remember that even death is not an obstacle to God.
See Jesus walking over to its coffin, touching it and saying, “I tell you, arise!”
Like the widow, your tears of sorrow will turn to tears of joy, when invite Jesus to bring life into your dead situation.
