黑白攝影相對於彩色攝影總是較為讓人印象深刻,褪去真實世界的色彩,黑白走向一種較為心理層面的想像空間,但可能大家會比較不熟悉彩色攝影的脈絡？（疑～小編M要來賣弄一下了）
今天要介紹的是號稱彩色攝影之父的William Eggleston！(文長慎入)

早期William Eggleston受到瑞士籍攝影師Robert Frank 的作品，以及法國籍攝影師Henri Cartier-Bresson的書《決定性的瞬間》 (The Decisive Moment) 之影響， William Eggleston之後回想起這本書，認為這是一本極為重要、偉大的書籍。William Eggleston一開始是拍攝黑白的照片，直到1965-66年經由William Christenberry才開始試驗彩色攝影。1960年代以後，彩色正片(Color transparency film)則成為他攝影時常使用的媒材。作為一位攝影師，相對於其他的藝術家，他處於一個相對孤立的位置。
1970年代，William Christenberry把他介紹給華盛頓現代美術館館長Walter Hopps。Hopps看過William Eggleston的作品後非常的驚訝，並說出從沒看過像這樣的作品！

1976年，William Eggleston在MoMA展出，可稱作是彩色攝影第一次在最嚴格的機構被接受，也是一個分水嶺。他的伯樂也就是策展人約翰·札克斯基（John Szarkowski）策劃一場回顧展，展名就叫做《彩色照片》，是展展出75幅他在1969-71年間所拍攝的南方景象，MoMA也為此展發行第一本彩色攝影集。
