Yesterday, I paid an e-visit to the teams handling our COVID-19 testing efforts. Testing is a critical part of our strategy to control COVID-19, and the teams have been busy organising and running this.

This huge and complicated operation depends on many individuals all doing their part so that the testing runs smoothly. It is not just getting the swab done, but being on the front line, taking all the precautions and doing the procedures right. It is hard work and I thank all of you who are making this possible.

As we start Phase 2 of our re-opening on 19 June, we are also ramping up testing capacity so that we can safely and progressively resume work and social activities in the COVID world.

To win this battle, we need everyone to continue doing our part by practising safe distancing and good personal hygiene. Let us make a safe and steady transition to Phase 2! – LHL

Cheered to read of this initiative by a group of Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore officers calling themselves ‘Friends for Aviation’. To show appreciation to frontline workers at Changi Airport, they are giving out S$50 EZ-Link cards to about 1,000 workers including cleaners, trolley and baggage handlers. It will help with their transport costs, as workers now need to travel more often for more frequent routine COVID-19 tests.

The recent COVID-19 outbreak at the airport saw the closure of Jewel, T1 and T3 to the public for a month for cleaning and disinfection, as well as aggressive testing of airport workers. Thanks to a massive effort and everyone’s cooperation, Jewel has re-opened this week.

To safely re-open our economy and society, we are ramping up our testing capacity and contact tracing. We will be offering TraceTogether tokens later this month, as an alternative to the TraceTogether app, both by Smart Nation Singapore and GovTech (Government Technology Agency of Singapore). The tokens will be a convenient option in case you come into contact with someone who has COVID-19 or fall ill yourselves, especially if you don’t have a smartphone.

Minister Lawrence Wong outlined our long-term plans to adapt to and live with COVID-19 in his national broadcast this evening.

As many of us have experienced, COVID-19 has fundamentally changed the way we live and work. Life will not go back to the way it used to be. As we adapt to the new arrangements, we must remain vigilant, maintain good personal hygiene, and learn new habits like wearing masks to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

Let us maintain the resourcefulness, resilience and determination we have witnessed over the past few months, as we step into this uncertain and new phase. – LHL
